The goal of weight loss shouldn’t simply be “lose as much weight as possible.”

Especially in the era of GLP-1 medications, we need to start asking a better question:

Is this high-quality weight loss?

High-quality weight loss means more than a lower number on the scale. It means:

→ Reducing excess body fat
→ Preserving lean tissue
→ Maintaining or improving strength and physical function
→ Creating results that are sustainable long term

This matters because the scale can’t tell us what was lost.

Some lean mass is typically lost during weight loss, and that doesn’t automatically mean something has gone wrong. What matters is the context: a person’s age, baseline muscle mass, physical function, nutritional status and overall health.

For some people, reducing visceral fat and improving blood sugar may be the biggest priority.

For others, particularly those with lower muscle mass or functional limitations, preserving strength and mobility may be equally important.

Weight loss is the outcome. But the quality of that weight loss matters.

If weight loss was simply a matter of willpower, it would have worked by now.

We believe we need more discipline, more motivation, or more self-control.

But weight regulation is far more complex than that.

Willpower can help you make a decision in a moment. It cannot permanently overpower hormones, appetite signals, stress, sleep deprivation, genetics, food environments, and decades of learned behaviour.

And when we struggle to lose weight, we've been taught to view a biological challenge as a moral failure.

Sustainable weight management starts when we stop asking:

"Why don't I have enough willpower?"

And start asking:

"What factors are influencing my appetite, eating behaviours, and health right now?"

Less blame.
More understanding.
Better outcomes.

The GLP-1 Blueprint Session 3 – The Inner Critic

You know that voice…
It whispers doubts, criticizes your choices, and pulls you off course—especially on your weight-loss journey.
This voice can feel powerful and persuasive… but it often creates stress and motivates through shame as opposed to offering support.

“Why can everyone else do this but I can’t?”
“Why bother, I just always fail…”
“You’re so weak”

Most people think this inner dialogue is their voice.

What if I told you this is your Inner Critic speaking. You think this Inner Critic IS you. But it is truly separate entity.

It is likely your Inner Critic has been running the show. The Inner Critic will drain motivation, trigger overeating, increase stress and foster doubt.

In the GLP-1 Blueprint, we are learning to notice The Inner Critic, understand it, and choose a kinder, more grounded voice instead.

Weight loss is more than prescribing medications and offering a meal plan. It is about re-wiring our neurobiology.

In Session 2 of The GLP-1 Blueprint, we explored Appetite Literacy.

Your appetite is personal—learning your body’s signals is the key, not following someone else’s rules.

Hunger comes in many forms—physical and emotional—and it’s different from wanting.

When you tune into your own appetite, you give yourself the power to choose.
And let’s be clear: wanting isn’t wrong or bad. It’s just different from hunger.

Listen. Observe. Honour your body. No rules, no judgment—just you. 💛

So many patients tell me they’ve “tried every diet” — but diets only target one part of the story.
Lasting weight loss means supporting your metabolism, hormones, and nervous system together.

As an ND, this is the framework I use to help patients create real, sustainable change — sometimes with the support of medication, sometimes without.

⭐️This is why I’m so excited to be running The GLP-1 Blueprint. A 6 month program to support the foundations of weight loss. An opportunity to both learn and unlearn. To build sustainable habits and confidence.

I’m excited to share that I’m launching a new 6 month online group program to support patients with their weight loss goals. This isn’t your typical weight loss program of nutrition, exercise and willpower. This evidence-based, online group program offers a completely new perspective on metabolic health.

As the facilitator of the program, I will be guiding participants through The Shift System™ developed by Dr. Ashley White, MD (shared and implemented with permission). The program was created so patients understand that successful weight loss goes beyond focusing on nutrition and movement alone. You will learn about appetite regulation, metabolic strategy, creating sustainable systems and optimizing all areas of your health.

While the program is definitely helpful for patients who have been prescribed a weight loss medication, it is NOT necessary to be currently taking one to be a part of the program.

Curious about the program but not sure if it is right for you? I will be offering 10 min complimentary phone calls on September 30 and October 2. DM me to sign up for a call!

The viscous cycle of restrictive dieting for weight loss leaves patients frustrated and understandably so.

We often blame ourselves and our lack of willpower to succeed.

But have you considered a whole new approach to weight loss? One that puts your values first, understands who you are as a person and supports you on a personal level? A program that helps regulate appetite and support your metabolism. An approach that doesn’t emphasize restriction rather looks to nourish you for your best health?

Exciting things to come so stay tuned 😊
