Happy National Seniors Day! 💙

Today we’re celebrating seniors everywhere and the love, wisdom and joy they bring to our families and communities.

More than 1,600 seniors call our Golden Life Villages home across B.C. and Alberta, and every day they show us what it really means to live life to the fullest.

Our residents are the ones who keep the card table lively and amaze us with their woodworking skills. They cheer the loudest at bingo, fill the dance floor when the band starts up and always save a seat for someone new. In our Villages, a simple “come sit with us” can be the start of a great friendship.

To our residents and to seniors everywhere: thank you for the stories, the laughter and the reminders of what matters most. Thank you for helping shape our society and for continuing to make our communities brighter.

As we welcome a new season, we’re taking a moment to look back at some of the fun that filled our Villages this summer. ☀️

From special events and activities to days out and new experiences, it was a busy summer across Golden Life! Here are just a few of the highlights.

More than $80,000 raised. And we’re not done. 💜

Anything for Alzheimer’s has been part of Golden Life for years. Last year, our residents, families, staff, friends and neighbours raised over $30,000, bringing our total contributions to more than $80,000.

This September, we’re coming together again, and everyone is invited to be part of what happens next.

We chose this cause and continue to stand behind it because dementia has touched every community we are part of. Friends. Neighbours. Families.

Every event is an opportunity to come together and make a meaningful difference.

Castle Wood Village has done it again!

For the second year in a row, our residents’ gardens have been named among Castlegar’s Miracle-Gro Best Garden selections through Communities in Bloom.

The judges even described the gardens as Castlegar’s best-kept secret.

During this summer’s national Communities in Bloom judging visit, we welcomed judges from Alberta and Ontario, along with local Communities in Bloom volunteers, for lunch at Castle Wood Village. Afterwards, our gardeners proudly led them through the courtyard, sharing what they had grown, answering questions and explaining the inspiration behind their garden boxes.

At Castle Wood Village, residents who love to garden can have a garden box of their own and choose every detail, from what they grow and how they decorate it to the name they give their garden.

Please join us in congratulating our talented gardeners! Their hard work, creativity and passion have created something truly special for everyone at Castle Wood Village to enjoy.

The Carnival is back at Castle Wood Village!

Bring your family and friends and join us on Friday, August 28, from 3–7 PM for an afternoon of carnival fun featuring a dunk tank, games, face painting, prizes, food and drinks.

Everyone is welcome! Admission is free and no RSVP is required. Tickets for games, food and drinks will be available, with proceeds supporting the Anything for Alzheimer’s fundraiser.

The library at Crest View Village has a new addition: a resident art gallery.

After the Village was freshly painted, the idea for the Crest View Art Gallery took shape as a way to showcase the creativity and talents of residents. Displays rotate every four weeks and can feature all kinds of resident-created art, from paintings and jewellery to poetry and story writing.

There’s just one requirement: everything on display must be created by a Crest View Village resident.

These photos feature the first group of residents to have their art displayed in the gallery, with a new display coming soon.

July was lively across our Golden Life Villages, with so much happening and always something to look forward to.

Different Villages, different interests and plenty of reasons to get together. From celebrating with neighbours and enjoying live entertainment to outings and a little friendly fun, there were lots of ways to take part and enjoy time together.

Here are just a few of the moments shared from around our Villages this July:

Mountain Side Village: Residents, staff and family members came together to celebrate Canada Day in red and white.

Castle Wood Village: The Rossland Gold Fever Follies brought an afternoon of live entertainment to the Village.

Rose Wood Village: Residents enjoyed a casino outing and celebrated Christmas in July with a visit from Santa.

Silver Kettle Village: A little summer fun came in the form of a water balloon fight, with residents taking turns tossing balloons at Community Manager John Brewster.

In July, the Columbia Garden Village team came together for a staff appreciation day to enjoy lunch, connect and recognize two special employee milestones.

Congratulations to Amrit Minhas, Director of Clinical Care, on ten years with Golden Life, and Becky Charette, Health Care Assistant, on five years!

Thank you both for the care, dedication and heart you bring to residents, your colleagues and the entire Village community each day. We are so grateful for Amrit, Becky and the Columbia Garden Village team.

Summer changes everything at our Villages.

The gardens are in full bloom, the courtyards are buzzing with conversation, and morning walks turn into afternoon visits that stretch well past dinnertime. Whether it's residents lingering a little longer outside, catching up with neighbours and family, or simply soaking in the warmth of a July evening, summer at Golden Life has so much to offer.

This is the season that reminds us why this chapter can be so full. Not because the calendar says so, but because the doors are open, the days are long, and there's always someone to share them with.

Summer at Golden Life. It just feels right.
