MacKenzie Funeral Chapel was established in Prince Albert in 1935 by Kenneth R. The original funeral home was located next door to its present location at 130 – 9th Street East. In July 2009, long time employees of MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Brian and Bev Stobbs, purchased MacKenzie Funeral Chapel along with MacKenzie Crematorium and returned them to be locally owned and operated funeral services.

Brian and Bev Stobbs have a combined 30 years’ experience in the funeral industry. MacKenzie Funeral Chapel serves Prince Albert and surrounding area with its main office (MacKenzie Funeral Chapel), and its crematorium (MacKenzie Crematorium) located within Prince Albert, along with an office in Birch Hills (Birch Hills Funeral Home). At MacKenzie Funeral Chapel we offer a competitive range of funeral services including traditional and cremation services. We also provide our families with cemetery property, monuments as well as pre-arranged and pre-paid funerals. Mackenzie Funeral Chapel provides 24 hour service to all of our clients. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vernon Ronald Edward Leslie Bird, late of Little Red River Reserve, SK on May 28th, 2026, at the age of 71 years. Vernon was born in Little Red River Reserve, SK on July 3rd, 1954 to George and Charlotte Bird (nee Sanderson).Vernon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Nancy Bird; his daughters Ida (Nina) Bird, Charmaine (Virgil) Ermine, Nicole Bird, Erica (Justin) Stieb, Katie (Ken) Bear, Frieda (Steven) Sasakamoose, Verna (Gerald) Ballantyne, Angel Halkett, Michelle Halkett, & Rolene Umperville; his sons Dakota Bird, Patrick (Precious) Bird, Jamie (Edith) Vandall, Edward Cook, Edward (Evelyn) Ballantyne, Tyson Mason-Bird; his grandchildren Kelly B, Tyra B, Olivia M, Travis B, Taylor B, Devin E, Brenton S, Tallica E, Damon B, Walker R, Cole R, Dylan R, Zach R, Shanan C, Shana C, Karah M, Arin M, Lily M, Kenzo B, Omri B, Jadda B, Nicolas O, Janessa O, Keegan O, Aliyah V, Jamie Jr V; his brother Clifford Bird; his sisters-in-law Eliza B, & Roseline B; his special grandson Dakota Bird; his godchildren Tracy K, Tracy H, Shirley B, Lillian W, Janelle M, Ben M; his nieces and nephews Albert girls, Mary M, Elizabeth D, Miranda C, Chuppy’s kids, Irma M, Louis L, Anthony B, & Merle O; as well as numerous grandchildren & chapans. A Wake Service will be held Saturday May 30th, 2026 - 7PM & Sunday May 31st, 2026 - 7PM at the Little Red School Gym in Little Red River Reserve, SK.
A Pipe Ceremony will be held on Monday June 1st, 2026, at 2PM at the Little Red School Gym in Little Red River Reserve, SK.

The Officiants will be the Community Elders. The Honourary Pallbearers are Roy Daniels, Howard Halkett, Velmer Ermine, Edward Henderson, Del Herron, Lionel Bird, Don Naytowhow, Frank Bird, Charlie Goertzen, Allen Glen Halkett, Fred Halkett, Frank Roberts, Rick Bruce, and all those who shared in Vernon’s life. The Historical Walking Tour is back! Put your walking shoes on and join us for a nearly 1.5 hour tour of the the historical downtown Prince Albert area.
Call ahead to book your spot or drop in and join the walking tour on Thursdays & Sundays at 2:00. It's only $2 per person.
The tour has been updated and the route has changed a bit, but it's still a great way to learn more about the community or to reminisce with family and friends.
