For today's 'Mission Monday' I wanted to share some of the information page that goes into our Welcome Binders when we have a new resident moving in; especially to highlight the new Chapel Services Schedule.
“A Welcoming Christian Community giving life meaning”.
A full meaningful life encompasses all our being: physically, emotionally, mentally/ intellectually, and spiritually.
At the heart of it all is our spirit- what gives us life.
Spirituality connects us to what is beyond ourselves and is at the core of who we are.
What feeds your spirit?
Spirituality is a search for wholeness and what gives us meaning in life. One way of looking at it is asking what I value in life; that there is a sense of purpose, that I feel at peace with my life.
Spiritual care focuses on relationships where one finds hope in life.
At Mont St Joseph, we are interested in supporting you and your relationships, and to provide broad based client centered spiritual care.
What helps people cope and bring them hope?
Spirituality can provide guidance, comfort, reassurance, and inner strength, especially during life’s changes and challenges.
For many there is a higher quality of life that can bring joy and hope if spiritual needs are met.
How people express their spirituality is unique to every individual, and often is shaped by a person’s history, culture, community, and traditions.
For some their spirituality is expressed through different religious faith traditions.
Mont St Joseph is a Catholic facility where our RC faith traditions are nourished, celebrated, and what gives us our identity.
Presently our Catholic Masses are on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays at 3:30. Besides the Catholic masses we have a Catholic priest, who is available for other sacramental needs such as the anointing of the sick, sacrament of reconciliation, or any other pastoral needs that residents would like to see a priest for. As well, in living our vision and mission of being a Christian Community, Mont St Joseph Home strives to provide Chapel services to accommodate other denominations of our residents, family, friends and staff. We have additional services with some of the Christian churches on a rotation per month every Wednesday (Lutheran, United, Ukrainian Catholic, Anglican).
Other services include a gospel singing and sharing time once a week, as well as other opportunities to grow in one’s spirituality and faith.
The chapel is available for individual prayer needs for residents, staff and family.
In addition to chapel services, the Director of Pastoral Care is available to all residents for one-on-one spiritual care.
As there is only one staff member in this department, a group of community volunteers who are called “spiritual companions”, was formed to assist with spiritual care needs.
In accordance with the Vision, Mission, Values, Goals and Objectives of Mont St Joseph Home, the mission of the Spiritual Care department is to be a visible and active sign of Christ healing love through the ministry of compassionate presence and caring. The Spiritual Care department promotes the spiritual welfare of the residents, families and staff through prayer, liturgical services, support, and inspiration. To better serve these spiritual needs, liaison with the community’s churches and their pastors and other spiritual leaders is of utmost importance.
It is our hope that the Spiritual Care department can offer everyone, no matter what they believe in, or how they express their spirituality, what they need on their sacred journey. In doing so, it is our hope that we live our mission to give life meaning.
We are here for you, with compassion, presence, prayer, and accompaniment.
All are welcome!
Peace
Sr RéAnne Letourneau
Director of Pastoral Care
