In active addiction, the brain becomes heavily focussed on instant gratification and the anticipation of substance use. Fishing offers a healthier form of anticipation-waiting, wondering and hoping a good bite might happen. The brain experiences that dopamine surge, teaches patience, and enjoyment even if no fish are caught… that’s why they call it fishing, not catching. Fishing is spiritual work.
