It’s July 1st! Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦, and also, this is the time of year when medical residents come and go!

Did you know that our office has taught residents since 2002? Our Residents are graduates of medical school who will now spend 2 years becoming specialists in Family Medicine!

Last month we said good by to Dr. Kornelson and Dr.Edworthy, and this month we welcome Dr.Bussan and Dr.Sader. Dr.Busaan will be with us for a couple of months this year before she moves on to more rural sites, and Dr.Sader will be a part of our practice over the next 2 years! We also are happy to have Dr.Jhajj for another year as she completes her training.

If you have questions about residents or the role they play in our office, please let us know. We appreciate your welcoming them into your lives as they become new family doctors ❤️

💬 Viewpoint by Matthew Davenport, MD, MBA, and Scott Reeder, MD, PhD: For-profit whole-body screening of the general adult population is not endorsed by evidence-based guidelines, given the lack of proven benefit and the likelihood that cumulative harms—including anxiety, invasive procedures, and unnecessary treatment—outweigh potential advantages.

Most incidental cancer detections are low-risk and rarely improve health outcomes, while aggressive disease is infrequently impacted by screening. Data from prior screening initiatives indicate increased diagnoses without mortality benefit and notable complications, supporting that individuals in the general population are more likely to be harmed than helped by elective whole-body MRI screening.

We are heartbroken by the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge, and our hearts go out to all the victims.

In this time of shock and pain, a gentle reminder that tragedy brings out a lot of misinformation. It’s important to remember that a person’s gender identity is never the cause of violence. Trans people are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Let’s focus on peace and supporting vulnerable communities, not on stereotyping them. ❤️
