My love Allison and all those teachers out there who are my peeps!
As I watch teachers and educators I so admire attempt to shift down their nervous systems as they step into summer, I just want to say now is when I think about you the most. The sleepless nights that will continue as you worry about the ones you've seen every day for months. Maybe the angst of "fitting it all in and making memories with your own families dammit" before you suddenly have to step back in. Your role in this village of raising the next generation is likely the most underestimated contribution, ever.
Know that so many of your students and your families are talking about you and your amazingness around campfires and kitchen tables this summer. When your students spot you in the wild at a grocery story or at the beach in the "off season", there will be light-ups and awe that you have a whole life that exists outside the classroom. Your influence is endless. As a 51-year-old woman, I can tell you I still talk about Mrs. Nordstrom and still think about Mr. Pon, Mr. Shaw, Mrs. Sarafinchan, Mrs. Andrukow, Mrs. Midbow, Mr. Nordstrom, Mrs. Hudson, Mrs. Hafso, Mrs. Hill, Mr. Langner, Mrs. Langner, Mr. Morris, Mr. Gillies, and Mr. Fornal (to name a few) all. the. time.
The kids are the least of our worries. We need to ensure you are taken care of. Take the time to reset and remember your why. If you have a favourite you still think about - I'd love to know their name. And most of all, look at this list and know that somewhere, because of what you do, you not only change lives, you save them. Rest well as you prepare for the next season of holy work.
