Connection Martial Arts is now an official member of the Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development.

This global network is made up of 100+ organizations across more than 40 countries using martial arts and combat sports to create a more equitable, peaceful and sustainable world.

Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development works to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through education, collaboration, and advocacy.

Connection Martial Arts aims to support Goal 3 (Good Health & Wellbeing), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 10 (Reduce Inequalities).

We have had a busy two weeks for team Connection!

We brought a team of six athletes to the ISKA National Championship on October 4th, and then Nicole fought in Prince George on October 10th in a kickboxing bout along with three of our friends from Martial Arts Unlimited .

Here is a photo dump from both events. Super proud of all of these athletes.

The judges didn't give Nicole the win last night, but we are more than happy with their performance against a bigger opponent with more experience.

Between Thanksgiving and the Knockout Events fight card, it is going to be a busy one. Please take note of the days we are closed.

We are very proud of everyone today. Not only did they show up on the mats, they also showed up as a team off of them.

Competing takes a lot of courage. The lessons we bring home mean more than the result, and we can't wait to get back to the gym to continue to sharpen each other.

Special thanks to Alex who stepped in to coach when two of our athletes were set to fight each other.

We are coming home with two bronze, three silver, and one gold.

We are away at a tournament! There are no kickboxing/Muay Thai classes on Sunday, October 4th. Our monthly HEMA workshop will be running as usual from 4-7pm.

Everyone knows Amy as one of our coaches and athletes. What you might not know is how much they support Nicole behind the scenes. So, we thought we would make it official and give them a fancy title! Please welcome Amy as our first ever Administration Manager.

What this means is that, in addition to coaching, Amy will be taking on some administration tasks. So, if she pops into your inbox, don't be alarmed!

As we grow and prepare to move to our new space in 2027, we are working on expanding our team to keep the experience of our community members the best it can be. Thank you for being a part of what we are building together. 🙏

We will be closed September 30th to observe National Truth and Reconciliation Day.

There are many ways you can engage in truth and reconciliation. Here are a few ideas:

1. Read and re-read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
2. Learn about Indigenous history and the residential school system.
3. Identify and acknowledge the territory where you live.
4. Support Indigenous creators and businesses.

Regarding that last one, we still have beaded vinyl pins from Jean Baptiste available at the gym for $20 (cash only please).

Messages around the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation can be an unwelcome reminder to those who suffered hardships through generations of government policies that were harmful to Indigenous Peoples. A 24-hour support line (1-866-925-4419) provides crisis referral services to survivors and their families and explains how to access further health support from the Government of Canada. The Hope for Wellness Helpline provides immediate, culturally safe, crisis intervention support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week through its hotline, 1-855-242-3310, or its online chat at hopeforwellness.ca. The service is available in English, French and, upon request, in Cree, Ojibway and Inuktitut.
