56 th practice anniversairy thoughts
November 19, 1969 was the first day of my Prince Rupert practice.
1963 and 64 I worked on the CNR dining car as a summer student between Jasper and Prince Rupert, so this was the original Hook to get me to Prince Rupert.
PR was the Wild West in 1969, probably the closest to the days of old gold rush towns. There were only two potential office spaces available and they were both located on the second floor on the corner of 6th St. And 3rd ave. I chose the one above Fashion Footwear and Kaien sports shops. Dom Dominato was owner of Fashion Footwear and the building. Even with the tight rental market he was anxious to assist this young chiropractor to stay in PR with a very reasonable rent and moral support. A few days following my beginning remodelling of the space another Rupert booster, Larry Valentin visited and asked if I needed a place to stay as he had a friend who had a small apt available. There was Zero availability for housing and many were in bush shacks and some even under the sidewalks and bridges.
The only other chiropractor west of PG was Dr. Cliff Turpin in Terrace who passed away in 1971. As the drawing area now was from PG to Haida Gwaii, North to Anchorage and South to Bella Bella we had patients arriving by sea, air, bus and train.
We are now helping families into the 5th and 6th generation. I feel so thankful to be blessed with healing hands and an inquisitive mind which continuously searches for the answers for those difficult cases.
I wish to thank ALL who have made my family as well as Linda and I such intricate part of the North West family.
