🥾Would you love to be able to get a change of scenery for your walks and experience nature and all of its benefits but aren’t confident in your strength, mobility and balance to venture off the beaten path?

🙌 I can help you prepare for your first hiking adventure safely and confidently!!

✅ Finding more ways to move our bodies will keep us feeling younger and happier for longer!

💥 But doing movement safely is an essential piece of the puzzle! If you’re constantly injured or participating through pain, it kind of takes away from some of the positive aspects of exercise don’t you think?

👎 I’m sure many folks can relate to being all gung-ho to start something -OR!- finally, begrudgingly, decided to do the damn thing and start!…

… only to wind up too sore or worse actually injured and it throws a wrench in all the motivation and grit you had going in. 🤕

Seeing a physiotherapist can help you embark on your movement journey safely and confidently by:

1. Assessing your movement and strength capabilities to determine where you need to focus to move safely and reduce chance of injury 💪

2. Determine what exercises would best prepare you physically to be able to do the activity 🏋️‍♂️

3. Create a program designed to specifically help you prepare for the movement required for that activity ⛹️‍♂️

4. Set tangible goals to get you started on your new movement journey in the most confident and safe way! 🙌

🫶 There are several ways we can work together! Booking links are in my bio and my DMs are always open for questions!

✅ Want to get the most from your walk? Ditch the electronics. Don’t track it. Keep your phone in your pocket and out of your hands. Walk in nature!!

🫶 Trust me! Trust the science! Most of all, learn to trust your mind and body! … and go for a walk!

Sunday Evening I hosted a Full Moon Forest Bathing event at La Belle Cabane 🫶

Mother Nature came through and we had a beautiful evening with a clear sky and perfect temperatures for a wander in the woods.

A lovely group of folks joined me to learn about the energy the moon has to offer us, the mental and physical health benefits that come from quite literally just being in the woods and to intentionally create time for themselves to just be.

The focus of forest bathing is simple: notice what you are noticing 💫

Slow down, take in your surroundings, keep coming back to the present moment and allow nature to do the rest.

The lovely crew at La Belle Cabane allowed us to start our session around the fire pit for a quick chat to start the evening, We then took a slow stroll up into the woods where we all found a spot to sit and listen to the hermit thrush sing its song, soak up the golden rays of sunset and bathe ourselves in the healing properties of nature.

La Belle Cabane is indigenous run and indigenous based in how they operate which means respect for nature through sustainable practices, reciprocity with nature by honouring what it gives to us and in turn giving back to it and the understanding that nature is more than just what we see with our eyes 💚

In my own forest bathing sessions, I provide folks with a small gift of seeds to give back to the forest and help provide for the beings of the forest as a thank you for all of the healing benefits the forest provides for us.

Once we all were able to take 15-20 mins of quiet in the woods, I encourage folks to leave the seeds in their sit spot or along the path back to our meeting spot as a thank you and as an energetic exchange of reciprocity. If we don’t take care of and tend to nature, who will?

When we returned to the fire pit, there was a welcoming fire lit and ready for us to share anything that may have come up during our time in the woods. We all had a cup of tea and shared stories of our connections to nature, we talked about our favorite trees and plants and chatted about what stood out to us while we were sitting quietly in the woods.

I can't wait host more folks for forest bathing events over the summer so stay tuned 👀

In the words of David Attenborough:

"No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced."

And in the words of me:
“Pause. Take a breath. And go hug a tree”

Being Human feels hard sometimes 🫶

We have access to so much information but with that comes confusion on who and what to trust. 🤯

🫶 What I am coming to realize, is we need to learn to understand and trust ourselves.

🫶 We need to learn about how our bodies work and what it takes to maintain them so that we can take care of them.

🫶 We need to learn to listen to what our bodies are telling us before it becomes an illness or chronic pain.

🤷🏻 When we aren’t feeling up to par (compared to everyone else) or are struggling in some aspect of life.. We often seek out the next routine, workout, mindset, supplement or whatever other health and wellness hack is circulating at the time… to “get us back on track” or “fix us”

Most of health and wellness right now is selling you something to:

💪 level up, optimize your routine or improve your body
⏱️quickly fix your problems
🤯 solve a problem you don’t even have but they convince you should be doing it anyway!

👀 But.. what if. And just hear me out..

The thing your mind and body actually want is for you to listen to it, understand it and give it what it needs accordingly?

Our human bodies are naturally made. As with almost all of nature.. our base existence needs are pretty simple:

Water
Food
Movement
Rest

And as conscious beings, most of us thrive more easily when we grow, create, connect, experience, feel and exist outside ourselves in community with others..

But for some reason we think we need lasers, lights, supplements, surgeries, complicated workout regimes, restricted diets and water from a spring off of a volcano to survive..

I just don’t think it has to be that hard.. and expensive!

🤩 So rather than buying or doing something new.. what if you got back to basics!

🫶 If you are unsure how to start getting back to basics or are interested in learning how to establish a solid foundation of health and wellness reach out!

🙌 As a physiotherapist who has studied the mind body connection for over a decade as well.. I can help you find and establish safe goals for taking care of your mind and body in a healthy and balanced way!

💫 I’ve really been reflecting a lot on how we as humans relate to movement and in turn, our bodies.

🤯 There are so many fads, gimmicks, quick fixes, goals that are well beyond the average person’s movement needs, inflations of what it actually means to be active (for example, running marathons every year is not where it’s at for most people, nor is it sustainable or necessary for most bodies) and there is so much societal messaging of how our bodies should look.

✨It seems many of us have lost sight of what it means to be a soul living in an organic human body and the grace needed for that.

🫶 but the thing is, our bodies were designed to move.

🫠 advances and changes in how we live our lives have made our daily lives more devoid of movement. We no longer get it by walking the grocery store and carrying our own bags because we insta cart it. So many folks spend their hours seated in front of a screen rather than socializing in person. Many people have lost the ability to keep consistent when things aren’t fun or exciting or new because we are so dependant on easy fixes and urgency/ busy culture has made less and less time for personal endeavours such as gardening, hiking, pick up games etc because everyone is so busy!

❤️ Learning to slow down, listen to our own bodies and lean in to what they need from a biological stand point is such a lost skill that many of us are left seeking solutions in all kinds of ways from all kinds of people.

👍 Yes, there are fitness guidelines for maintaining a level of physical, mental and emotional health that is going to keep you feeling your best… and they are important!

🙌 But It doesn’t have to be so complicated!

📍I think as humans we severely over complicate our lives by thinking we need to do and be like everyone else. It’s impossible!

🙌 if you are looking for a way to come back to yourself and enjoy movement again (or for the first time), or aren’t sure what types of movement are right for your needs, chatting with a physiotherapist can help!
