Bruce Perry’s “The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog” is about child trauma and the impact but also the story of recovery. It’s a book that every clinician who works directly with clients should read, but it can also be a really powerful read for clients who are working to overcome some of their own adverse events.

“Self-Compassion” by Kristin Neff is a practical guide to learning about self-compassion- what it is, the research behind it, but also very practical ways and activities for increasing self-compassion in your own life.

LGBTQIA+ people have always been at the heart of movements for a more just world: organizing, resisting, caring for one another through everything.

This May 17, we recognize that history, and the work still ahead.

Meet Mckenna’s amygdala, Morrie. Morrie travelled all the way from Australia to help us learn about our feelings.

Hey Warrior
“Anxiety explained, kids empowered”
This book teaches kiddos about their amygdala (an awesome part of our brain) that protects us. It teaches them what happens to our body when our amygdala takes over, and how we can become buddies with our amygdala while staying in control.

Ups and Downs
“A book for kids about big feelings”
This book teaches kiddos about emotion regulation. There is the top floor, where our bodies feel calm, the middle floor, where we might feel angry or anxious, and have too much energy in our bodies, and the bottom floor, where we might feel sad or tired, and have no energy in our bodies. Kids can explore what sends their bodies to each floor, and strategies to make their way back to the top floor.

Practicing gratitude isn’t about pretending that things are perfect. It’s about retraining our brain to focus on positive experiences rather than negative ones. Jotting down a few things we’re grateful for on a daily basis is a relatively easy way to improve our mental health.
