August 1 is National Girlfriends Day. Take a moment today to appreciate all of your fabulous girlfriends. If it’s been too long since you’ve had a moment to connect, think about reaching out to get a date in your calendar. Spending time with female friends benefits our mental health in so many ways! Thank you to the women who act as our sounding boards, our biggest cheerleaders, confidantes, chosen sisters, co-workers and friends.

Coming to counseling for the first time can be very intimidating for children. By introducing game, we are creating a more enjoyable and less intimidating environment. It helps our psychologists build a relationship with the child and ensures that they want to continue coming back. Games make therapy more fun and interesting and help us cover topics that the child might not be ready to talk about yet.

We have several wonderful child psychologists to choose from in our office. Call today to see who might be a good fit for your little person. 403 314 3489

Marc and Tara are both enthusiasts of depth psychology and so their book recommendations reflect this.
“Women Who Run With Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes is an internationally recognized exploration of the wild woman archetype. Tara has recommended this book to many women throughout the years as bibliotherapy to empower them in their inner journey towards fullness.

“King, Warrior, Magician, Lover” by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette is a foundational psychology book that outlines four primary archetypes of mature masculinity. This book is a wonderful guide on being a strong and loving man in this world, and is a potent counter to the toxic masculine messages in our society.

National Indigenous Peoples day is an opportunity to recognize and honor the vibrant traditions, rich cultures and deep knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada. As we celebrate, we also acknowledge the resilience, strength, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples who continue to shape our communities.

Building inclusive communities means being intentional about learning, listening, and acknowledging the Indigenous Peoples whose land we live, play and work on. This day is not only about celebration, but also about the reflection and continued commitment to respect and reconciliation.

Bruce Perry’s “The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog” is about child trauma and the impact but also the story of recovery. It’s a book that every clinician who works directly with clients should read, but it can also be a really powerful read for clients who are working to overcome some of their own adverse events.

“Self-Compassion” by Kristin Neff is a practical guide to learning about self-compassion- what it is, the research behind it, but also very practical ways and activities for increasing self-compassion in your own life.
