✨ Exciting News! ✨

I am so excited to officially welcome Nicola to the Gentle Hand Doula & Family Services team!

What makes this especially meaningful for me is that I had the incredible privilege of being Nicola’s doula for the birth of her last baby. Walking alongside her during such a sacred season gave me the opportunity to get to know her and witness her strength, compassion, and heart for families.

Nicola is already a trained and certified birth doula through DONNA, and she brings a deep passion for supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. As our team continues to grow, I couldn’t be more grateful to have someone with her character and heart joining us. One of the things I love most about building this team is finding women who truly embody the kind of care I want every family to receive—compassionate, supportive, evidence-informed, and deeply committed to serving families well. Nicola is exactly that.

I can’t wait for many of you to meet her and experience the beautiful support she offers.

💛 Please join me in giving Nicola a warm welcome!

A little more about Nicola:
Hey, my name is Nicola and I want to tell you who I AM. I am the woman behind Blessed Beginnings Doula Services. I am a trained doula in Birth, Postpartum and Breastfeeding. I am a mom to three beautiful babies, 2 girls and a boy. I am a wife. I am a follower and lover of Jesus. I am a woman that believes wholeheartedly woman deserves the birth story they have always dreamt of. Those stories that they have heard can happen, but don’t believe can happen for them. Those stories where the room was filled with peace, joy and support, unexplainable.
I am a woman that used to be the little girl that sat with the moms and their babies hoping one day I could stand witness to what went on in those rooms. In those quiet moments that change a person for the rest of their lives.
I started my journey in 2021 and after taking some time to grow my family I am ready and eager to help you grow yours!!

I love seeing my clients throughout their pregnancy. My prenatal visits are not just checking boxes but building a relationship rooted in trust, safety, and understanding.
One of the most important parts of prenatal care is getting to truly know you. Your personality, your fears, your strengths, your communication style, your past experiences, and what makes you feel safe during labour. 💗 Our visits allow me to learn how to best support YOU specifically so when labour comes, I can read the room, advocate well, support your partner, and help create an environment where you feel safe enough to birth.

Postpartum Hills I’ll die on 🤍

* New moms should be mothered too.
* Visitors should bring food, not expectations.
* Sleep deprivation is not a badge of honour.
* Breastfeeding support changes everything.
* A healing mom should not be hosting people.
* Dads need support too.
* You cannot spoil a newborn.
* The dishes can wait.
* Postpartum rest matters.
* “Bounce back” culture is harmful.
* A warm meal and a clean kitchen can feel life changing postpartum.
* Asking for help is healthy.
* Babies belong in arms.
* Birth may end in a day or two…postpartum lasts much longer.
* Mothers deserve community, not isolation.
* Hormones, tears, rage, and overwhelm deserve compassion, not judgment.
* Healing takes time.
* The way a woman is cared for postpartum matters for years.

Early Labour is tricky! You are sooo ready to have a baby! 😅
The contractions start, and suddenly everyone is trying to “make labour happen”: walking for miles, bouncing on the ball for hours, doing every labour trick on the internet, and exhausting themselves before labour has even really begun.

Instead?

Go on a date.
Watch a movie.
Laugh.
Eat a good meal.
Take a nap.
Get a rebozo session.
See your chiropractor or acupuncturist.
And yes… have some fun with your baby daddy. 😉

Labour hormones thrive when you feel safe, loved, relaxed, and connected. Save your energy for active labour.

Deny labour until you cannot deny it. That’s one of the best pieces of birth advice you’ll ever receive. 🤍

love my job deeply. Supporting women and families during one of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their lives is an honour I will never take lightly. But being a doula also means living in a constant state of “on call.” Sleepless nights, adrenaline rushes, emotional investment, long labours, and constantly carrying the emotional weight of others can slowly take a toll on the body and mind.

Living with high levels of cortisol for long periods of time is not easy on the nervous system. And if I’m honest, learning how to stop, step away, rest, and truly leave work behind has been one of the hardest lessons for me.

Turning off my phone at night. Saying no sometimes. Taking vacations. Resting without guilt. Allowing my mind and body to recover. These are things I’m still learning.

But I’m realizing that rest does not make me less dedicated to my clients. It actually makes me a better birth worker. A more present doula. A healthier woman. A better wife and mother. A better support person for the families that trust me during such sacred moments. I’m almost back. Recharged. Rested. Refocused. Ready to love on you, support you, hold space for you, and serve your families with a full heart again. 💗💗💗💗

The moment you hold your baby in your arms and the world goes silent.

Your brain is still trying to catch up. You feel their warm, wet skin on your chest, and for a moment you’re still in denial. Still shocked that you did it. Still shocked that it’s over.

And then, slowly, you come back to yourself. You look down at your baby, really seeing them for the first time, and the tears start to fall.

You meet your baby, and somehow, in that sacred little moment, everything in the world makes sense. 💗 one of my favourite pictures that I snapped at a birth 💗
