💚 A positive step forward for mental health and addictions care in Canada!

The Canadian Mental Health Association welcomes the federal government’s decision to extend $1.2 billion in funding for mental health, addictions, and home and community care for an additional year.

At CMHA Central Alberta, we know firsthand how important accessible, community-based mental health supports are to the individuals, families, and communities we serve.

While this extension is encouraging news, it also reinforces the need for long-term, predictable, and sustainable investment in mental health and addictions services.

Community organizations need funding stability to plan effectively, retain skilled professionals, and ensure people can access support when and where they need it.

Mental health care is essential health care. Investing in prevention, early intervention, and community-based services strengthens not only individual well-being, but our communities as a whole.

We join CMHA National in welcoming this announcement and continuing to advocate for lasting investments in mental health care across Canada.

Exciting news! 🎉 CMHA Central Alberta's project, The Community Connection Project: Bringing Mental Health Support Closer to Home, has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 Field Law Community Fund Program!

If successful, this funding will help us expand our Connection Caravan outreach program, bringing mental health support, education, and meaningful conversations directly to rural and smaller communities across Central Alberta where access to services can be limited.

We’re looking for interested and available volunteers to join us as Counting Officers at the Elections Alberta Count Centre at the Westerner.

📍 Westerner, Red Deer

Who can volunteer?
✅ 16 years of age or older
✅ Under 18? Parental permission is required
✅ Canadian citizenship is not required
✅ Training will be required — details will be confirmed after forms are accepted

This is a unique fundraising opportunity for CMHA Central Alberta! Volunteers participate through the Group Election Worker Program, with payment going directly to the organization.
