What if one of the measurable signs of biological aging could move in the opposite direction?

In a human study of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, researchers measured increased telomere length in several types of immune cells. The largest measured increase was nearly 38 percent. They also found approximately 37 percent fewer senescent T helper cells following the study’s 60-treatment HBOT protocol.

Those are fascinating findings, and they inspired our latest article exploring telomeres, oxygen under pressure and the science of cellular renewal.

We spend much of the day being pulled from one thought, task and demand to the next.

Meditation does not make those demands disappear. It gives us a moment to step outside the noise before deciding what deserves our attention.

It does not need to be complicated, either. Five quiet minutes. A few conscious breaths. A willingness to sit still without chasing every thought that passes through.

A few minutes may not change your circumstances, but they can change the place from which you meet them.

This Friday, Al shares his thoughts on meditation and the place it can have in everyday wellness.

See you back here on Friday! 💙

Rest is not a reward for finishing everything.

We have been taught to make rest conditional.

After the inbox is empty.
After the house is clean.
After everyone else has what they need.
After we have done enough to deserve it.

"Finished” is a line that keeps moving. There will always be another task, another decision and another way the day could have been used more productively.

Rest is not quitting. Rest is, wisely, refusing to spend tomorrow’s energy trying to satisfy today’s impossible standard.

The unfinished work will still be there tomorrow. Will you arrive there restored enough to meet it?

Stop before everything is done. Stop while you still can.

Can hyperbaric oxygen actually affect the rate at which we age?

This week, Al is talking telomeres.

Think of telomeres as the protective caps on the ends of your chromosomes, a little like the plastic tips on your shoelaces. Telomeres tend to shorten as we age, which is why they've become such an interesting area of longevity research.

Human studies have found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is associated with increased telomere length in blood cells and a reduction in senescent cells.

Does that mean HBOT is the fountain of youth? No.

However, it does make the relationship between oxygen, cellular health and aging a fascinating area of research.

Curious about how HBOT can help you live longer?

Lyme disease does not always affect just one part of the body.

Lyme can involve the nervous system, immune system, joints and even the heart, which is one reason symptoms can look so different from one person to another.

For people dealing with Lyme disease, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used alongside antibiotics and other medical care to increase oxygen delivery, support immune function and help decrease inflammation.

HBOT may be a valuable part of your healing plan.

Would you like to talk with Al about whether HBOT might have a place in your healing journey?

There’s more going on at 293 Burnt Park Drive than you might realize.

You probably know Al for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

What you may not know is that he shares this address with two other health professionals, each running their own practice and bringing an entirely different set of healing modalities to your healing journey.

Darlene Gillrie offers health consulting, with modalities ranging from frequency and muscle testing to herbs, energy balancing and more. For more information call Darlene: 403-396-0741

Dr. Candice Staniek, ND offers naturopathic medicine, with an approach that looks beyond symptoms to what may be going on underneath them. For more information call Candice: 587-360-6800

And then, of course, there’s Al and the big blue chambers. For more information call Al: 403-352-8755

No, they don’t all do the same thing. That’s precisely what makes this little corner of Burnt Park worth your while.

There is no prize for being unimpressed.

Being difficult to impress is often mistaken for sophistication. Sometimes, it is discernment. Sometimes it is simply distraction, exhaustion, or the habit of dismissing anything familiar.

Wonder asks something of us. It asks us to stop scrolling, ranking and comparing long enough to encounter one thing on its own terms.

A flower is not ordinary because you have seen one before.

Neither is a sunrise. A human face. A body healing. Another day.

The world is not dull. Familiarity has made us careless.

Look again.

Two women. Same diagnosis. Two completely different experiences with HBOT.

One had been in a wheelchair for 10 years.

After 35 treatments, she didn't think HBOT was doing anything and wanted to quit. Her mom and Al were seeing changes, but she wasn't feeling them herself.

She agreed to keep going.

Another woman with MS came to O₂xy after having no feeling in her feet for more than three years.

After one treatment, she said the feeling came back.

One treatment versus dozens. How can the experiences be so different?

That's the point Al wants you to understand.

There is no magic number of HBOT treatments. No two people arrive with the same body, history, condition or circumstances, and no one can predict exactly how or when someone will respond.

This Friday with Al, two true stories illustrate how healing isn't linear and it doesn't follow a schedule.

Feeling better is just the beginning! 😊

Would you like to get started on the HBOT leg of your healing journey?

Healing is a process. And, sometimes, you can watch the healing unfold.

Spencer suffered serious facial burns in a fire. He came to O₂xy Wellness and booked 10 HBOT sessions.

These photos document his healing progression.

Why choose HBOT for burns?

Burns don't just destroy tissue. They threaten the tissue around the damage as well.

Surrounding every burn is what's called the zone of stasis: injured, oxygen-starved tissue.

In the hours and days after a burn, that zone can deteriorate. Cells that might have survived don't. The injury worsens.

Oxygen is what those cells need.

The problem is that burns compromise circulation precisely when blood flow matters most.

Swelling, inflammation, and vascular damage all conspire to reduce oxygen delivery to the tissues that need it most.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy works to address this problem. Under hyperbaric pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into the blood at levels far beyond what's possible at normal atmosphere, thus reaching hypoxic tissue through pathways that compromised vessels can't.

Research suggests this can support the formation of new blood vessels, collagen production, and skin regeneration, while also helping to reduce edema and preserve marginally viable tissue in that critical early window.

HBOT has been used alongside conventional burn care in specialized centres for decades: particularly for acute burns and threatened skin grafts. Clinical trials in this area are limited, and researchers are still building the evidence base, so we won't overstate it.

What's clear is the mechanism: get more oxygen to oxygen-starved tissue, and that tissue has a better chance of healing.

When the burn is on your face, and the difference between outcomes is something you'll see in the mirror every day, that chance matters.

Burn scars can remain long after the original injury has healed, making the quality of that healing particularly important.

Thank you, Spencer, for letting us share your story of healing through HBOT. 💙

Are you wondering whether HBOT could play a role in your own healing? Better call Al, he will be happy to talk it over with you.
