Sending love, comfort and peace to the family as they navigate life without Parker.
" Today, Parker's family shared the official GoFundMe that so many people have been asking for. I will leave the link in the comments for anyone who has been looking for a way to support them directly.
But there was something else in their message that stopped me.
In the middle of an absolutely unfathomable loss, Parker's family still thought about other autistic children and families.
They told this community that if supporting their family isn't how you choose to give, honour Parker by supporting organizations that serve autistic people instead. They named Between Friends, where Parker attended Camp Bonaventure, Renfrew Educational Services , where he attended preschool and kindergarten, and Autism Calgary.
There is something about that which captures the autism community so beautifully.
Becoming the parent your autistic child needs can bring challenges, fears, growth and a depth of love that can be difficult to explain to anyone outside of this world.
But somewhere along the way, we find each other.
We celebrate milestones other people might never realize were mountains. We understand why a successful haircut can bring someone to tears. We don't need an explanation for the headphones, the AAC device, the safe food packed in someone's bag or the child who needs to leave the birthday party after ten minutes.
We carry space for each other's children.
And even now, in one family's darkest and most unimaginable chapter, they looked outward and said:
If you want to honour our child, help another autistic person.
I don't think I will ever forget that.
So yes, if you have been asking how to help Parker's family or to honor Parker, I have tagged the organizations and the official GoFundMe authorized by his family is in the comments.
But they've also given us another answer.
Support an autistic child.
Support a family.
Support an organization creating places where autistic people can belong exactly as they are.
And if giving financially isn't possible, that's okay too.
Learn something.
Teach something.
Include someone.
Thank someone.
Understand someone.
There are so many ways to carry Parker's community forward.
May we carry his name, his story, and the community he created forward with compassion. 💙" Quoted from unknown social media source. Link in comments:
