OuTcomes Therapy is looking for an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our team this fall.

This might be the perfect fit for someone who is creative, playful, organized, and excited to support children in school-based settings. We’re looking for someone who loves to move, play, connect with kids, try new things, and learn quickly as part of a supportive therapy team.

This position may be a great fit if you live in Regina, Yorkton, Fort Qu’Appelle, or surrounding areas, as our school-based work includes communities east of Regina.

If you are positive, dynamic, child-centred, and interested in meaningful work that supports all learners, we would love to hear from you.

This week we’re celebrating and the power of free play. 🌿✨

What better way to celebrate than with research that reminds us play is not “just play.”

A large longitudinal study of toddlers and preschoolers in Australia found that children who spent more time in unstructured free play between the ages of 2–5 showed stronger self-regulation skills later in childhood, even after researchers controlled for earlier skills and other known factors.

That means the quiet moments of building, imagining, pretending, exploring, moving, creating, and simply being are doing big developmental work.

Free play gives children opportunities to:
🌱 practise waiting, problem-solving, and flexibility
🌱 manage big feelings during real-life social moments
🌱 develop creativity, confidence, and independence
🌱 move their bodies, test ideas, and learn through experience
🌱 build the foundations for regulation, learning, and participation

So today, we celebrate the messy, joyful, imaginative, self-directed moments of childhood.

Because sometimes the most powerful intervention is not adding more structure, it is protecting space for play. 💛

OuTcomes Therapy Turns 10 Today!

Wow, I will be honest, today feels a little surreal.

10 years ago, OuTcomes Therapy began with a leap of faith, a signed lease, and a whole lot of uncertainty. What I couldn’t have imagined then was the incredible community, growth, and impact that would follow.

Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside so many children, families, educators, and communities. From homes, to schools, to communities across the province, this work has always been about connection, trust, and supporting people in what matters most to them.

Occupational therapy is a profession I’m deeply grateful for. At its core, it’s about supporting strengths, fostering achievement, confidence, and meaningful engagement in everyday life, while celebrating the uniqueness of every individual. It truly is where art meets science.

Over 25 years in this profession, one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is this:
• Children already know how to be successful.
• Children already know how to include each other.
• Children already understand that we all have strengths, and how to use those strengths to learn, grow, and thrive.

They don’t need to be fixed, they need environments and opportunities that allow them to flourish.

So often, the children we serve show us where our environments and systems fall short. They challenge our assumptions, expand our thinking, and remind us that there is no single way to participate or succeed.

And because of that, our commitment to the next 10 years is this:
• To keep learning from them.
• To keep questioning our systems and our preconceived notions.
• To keep creating environments where ALL children can thrive.

Like any journey, there have been challenges, changes, and a lot of learning along the way. But what stands out most after 10 years is simple: the people.

To the children and families who have trusted us, thank you. It is an absolute privilege to be part of your journeys.

To the therapists and team members, past and present, thank you for the care, dedication, and heart you bring to this work.

This anniversary also holds space for someone who was part of the very beginning, Elaine. She believed in this vision, supported those early steps, and helped build the foundation of OuTcomes Therapy. She is deeply missed and remembered with so much gratitude.

So today, I feel incredibly grateful.
• Grateful for this profession.
• Grateful for this community.
• Grateful for every connection along the way.

Cheers to 10 years of OuTcomes Therapy & Thank YOU!

✨ Something new is cooking at Outcomes Therapy… ✨

Jana and I are currently in creation mode - fueled by coffee, collaboration, and donuts from Everyday Kitchen 🍩☕

We’ve been noticing something BIG:
Schools are working incredibly hard to build individual life skills programs for students… and it’s a lot of work.

So we asked ourselves:
👉 What if there was one place that had everything you needed to run meaningful, practical life skills programming?

Enter: Life Skills in a Box 📦

A one-stop, ready-to-use resource designed to make life skills programming more efficient, intentional, and actually doable -whether you’re running it yourself or delegating it to others.

We’re not quite ready to spill all the details yet… but we’re very excited about where this is heading 👀✨

💬 We want to hear from you:
What do you think is one life skill kids and teens today really need to learn?
