... what’s actually happening is usually MUCH, much deeper than being “picky.” 💬

For many children, this isn’t about being picky, stubborn, defiant, or problematic. Their avoidance of food isn’t a behaviour or manipulation.

It’s Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), a condition driven by sensory processing differences, severe anxiety, or fear of negative consequences like choking or vomiting.

When a child experiences extreme food selectivity, standard advice like “they’ll eat when they’re hungry” or “just don’t give them options” doesn’t just fail - it backfires.

If you’re tired of the mealtime battles and food guilt, join us for an interactive, live webinar designed to help you understand what’s really going on and how to support your child without power struggles.

🧠 Beyond “Picky Eating”: Understanding ARFID – Debunking Myths & Navigating Eating Challenges

This webinar will cover:
• ARFID vs. Selective Eating: Key signs, drivers, and why the “picky eater” label can actually do more harm than good.
• Debunking Myths: How to drop food guilt and leave outdated feeding advice behind.
• The Root Causes: Exploring sensory sensitivity, low appetite, and fear-based avoidance.
• Support & Accommodations: Realistic, neurodiversity-affirming strategies to lower anxiety and build safety at home.
• Advocacy & Next Steps: How to navigate family, school, and know when to seek specialized care.

✨ Includes a live Q&A with our NEW Nutrition Coach to get your questions answered!

🗓: Tuesday, Oct 27th @ 6:30–7:30 PM
📍: Online via Zoom (Live & Interactive)
💲: $60 per participant

Imagine a space where you don’t have to translate your thoughts, hide your sensory needs, or mask who you are just to fit in. 🤍🌱

Neurodivergent adults (late-diagnosed, diagnosed earlier in life, or self-diagnosed) should not have to struggle blindly through life.

You deserve support that actually understands how your brain works, honors your energy and capacity, and helps you to thrive - NOT support that asks you to “fix” or change yourself, or mask more.

If you are ready to start understanding your brain, working with your abilities and not against them, our Pathways Services are here to help you find your map.

Here is how we can support you:

👋 Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling – Therapy tailored to how your brain actually works, focusing on self-compassion and unmasking.

☕ Late-Diagnosis Support Group – Find your people, share your stories, and realize you were never alone in your experience.

⚡ ADHD One-Time Support Course – A targeted, low-overwhelm crash course packed with practical tools designed by and for ADHDers.

🛠️ Occupational Therapy – Tangible, everyday strategies to help manage sensory overload, executive dysfunction, and burnout.

🤍 Parenting Supports – Navigating the unique, beautiful, and sometimes exhausting world of neurodivergent parenting.

You don’t have to figure it out by yourself anymore. Your community is waiting.

Ours kids will rarely be THIS obvious if they don’t want to give someone a hug/kiss when asked.

Usually, our kids will mask their feelings, put on a smile, and give physical affection when prompted…. Even if their inside voice is screaming “NO I DON’T WANT TO!!”

Holiday gatherings can bring love, laughter… and a lot of pressure for kids to give hugs, kisses, or physical affection they aren’t actually comfortable with.

Let’s teach our kids that their bodies belong to them — not to holiday expectations.

🌲 Instead of forcing affection, try:
• Offering scripts: “You can wave, high-five, or say hello, whatever feels okay to you.”
• Backing them up: “We’re practicing body autonomy, so Sam gets to choose!”
• Checking in after events: “Were there any moments that felt uncomfortable?”
• Modelling consent: Ask your child before you swoop in for hugs, too.
• Letting relatives know ahead of time that your family supports consent-based greetings.

Respecting boundaries doesn’t make kids “rude”… it makes them safe, confident, and connected on their terms.

✨ Protect their comfort. Honour their voice. Trust their instincts.

✨ Holiday Survival 101: Prioritize Your (and Your Child’s!) Sensory Regulation!!

The holidays can be magical… and also a lot. 😬

New environments, loud gatherings, unpredictable schedules, and endless social expectations can push nervous systems into overload — for kids and adults.

Here’s your gentle reminder:
🎄 Sensory regulation isn’t optional during the holidays. It’s essential.

Whether you’re heading to family dinner, a school concert, or a whirlwind of holiday errands, planning for sensory needs can make the entire season feel calmer, safer, and more enjoyable.

💼 Pack the sensory comforts & tools:
Think of them as your holiday survival kit.
✔ Noise-cancelling headphones
✔ Fidgets
✔ Chewy jewelry or gum
✔ Weighted lap pad
✔ Sunglasses or hat
✔ Preferred snacks
✔ Cozy textures or comfort items
✔ A familiar scent or grounding object

Sometimes the difference between “This is fun!” and “I need to leave RIGHT NOW” is having the right tool at the right moment.

⏱ Build in regulation time — before, after, and during events:
> Pre-regulation helps the nervous system start grounded.
> Mid-event regulation prevents overwhelm from building.
> Post-event decompression helps everyone reset.

That might look like:
🌟 10 minutes of movement before leaving
🌟 A quiet break in a bedroom or car during the event
🌟 Stepping outside for fresh air
🌟 Listening to a calming playlist
🌟 A no-demand, cozy wind-down routine afterward

This is not “extra.” This IS the plan.
Sensory needs don’t disappear because it’s a holiday — and meeting them proactively can make the season feel more connected, joyful, and manageable for everyone.

✨ Here’s to a holiday season filled with regulation, comfort, and compassion. You deserve it. Your child deserves it. And your nervous systems will thank you. ✨
