I’m going through a divorce… now what?

One of the biggest misconceptions about divorce is that your first step has to be “lawyering up.”

Before making any major decisions, take advantage of the free resources available to help you understand your options. In this reel, I share one of my favourite local resources: the Family Law Information Centre Drop-In Clinic at the Regina Courthouse.

I’ve also listed this and other free resources on the Resources section of my website.

Follow along for practical guidance on separation, divorce, and co-parenting.

💙 One step at a time. One decision at a time. One journey forward.

📚 NEW JOURNEY FORWARD GUIDE
Children & Divorce | Guide #1

Is My Child Caught in a Loyalty Conflict?

One of the questions I hear most often from parents is:

"My child used to enjoy spending time with me. Now they don't want to come anymore. What changed?"

There isn't always a simple answer.

Sometimes children find themselves caught in what's known as a loyalty conflict—feeling like loving one parent means they're hurting the other. It's an emotional burden that no child should have to carry.

In Journey Forward Guide #1, I explore:
✔️ What a loyalty conflict is
✔️ Signs your child may be experiencing one
✔️ What parents can do to help
✔️ Common mistakes to avoid
✔️ When counselling may be beneficial

My goal with the Journey Forward Guide Series is to provide balanced, practical guidance that helps parents better understand what children may be experiencing during separation and divorce.

Whether you're navigating separation yourself, supporting someone who is, or you're a professional working with families, I hope you'll find these guides informative and helpful.

🌿 Journey Forward Reflection

Children don't need to love one parent less in order to love the other more. They simply need permission to love both.

Grateful. ❤️

This is a picture of my daughter and me from last night’s flag football game. It was the final game of my first season playing co-ed, and because we were short players, she jumped in to play with us.

With Mother’s Day and Father’s Day having recently passed, I’ve found myself reflecting on just how grateful I am for moments like this.

Three years ago, if you had asked me whether our relationship would look the way it does today, I honestly would have said no. Not because I didn’t want it to, but because we were navigating the effects of a high-conflict separation, and there were times I felt powerless, heartbroken, and unsure of what the future would hold.

What I needed most during that period of my life was hope and emotional support. At the time, it was difficult to imagine that things could be different.

Today, I’m incredibly thankful that my daughter and I share the relationship we do. I know that not every parent has this outcome, and I know how deeply many parents long for that same connection with their children.

That is one of the reasons I do the work I do.

To those parents who are in the middle of the pain right now: don’t give up. Healing is rarely linear, and every family’s journey is different, but hope matters.

I’m simply grateful that this is part of ours. ❤️

Today, a student gave me these cookies and they reminded me why I do this work.

As a Social Worker, I don’t teach math, science, or reading. I teach emotional regulation, resilience, self-confidence, problem-solving, and healthy coping skills.

I help children understand what is within their control and what is not. I help them find their voice, build confidence, and navigate life’s challenges.

Most importantly, I strive to create a space where children feel safe, heard, understood, and valued.

Moments like this are a reminder that meaningful change often begins with connection.

Thank you to this thoughtful student and family for such a kind gesture. ❤️

Sometimes people are surprised to learn that alongside my counselling practice, I also work in an elementary school.

Being in the school environment keeps me closely connected to the day-to-day realities kids are navigating—emotionally, socially, and within their families.

It is a privilege to support children and families in both spaces 🤍

April is almost fully booked, with only 4 spots remaining.

If you’ve been thinking about starting counselling—or returning for support—this is a good time to secure your session before availability is gone.

I support individuals and families navigating separation, co-parenting, and life transitions, with a focus on emotional support and practical strategies.

One of the hardest parts of separation—or dating after it—is how quickly it can impact your sense of worth.

When someone walks away, pulls back, or treats you like you are replaceable, it is easy to start questioning yourself.

But that feeling is not a fact.

Often, it reflects their capacity, their patterns, or their limitations—not your value.

Rebuilding your sense of self after this kind of experience takes intention, support, and honest reflection.

You are not disposable.

It started as an idea… then became a dream… and eventually, I decided to take the risk and follow it.

Today, I had the opportunity to present virtually along with Melissa Bruderer-Meehan to the Law Society, speaking with family law lawyers from across Saskatchewan.

We talked about the realities of compassion fatigue, burnout, and high-conflict personalities—and more importantly, practical tools they can start using right away.

16 lawyers showed up to do the work and learn how to better support their clients (and themselves).

Moments like this remind me why I started.

No regrets—just growth, learning, and continuing to step through fear.

Next stop? I’m thinking national.

Cheers to big impact—and to what is next!
