The group home industry essentially functions by commodifying childhood trauma. Rather than providing genuine healing, these facilities are often incentivized to maintain a cycle of behavioral issues to justify high daily billing rates and ongoing funding.
The child welfare economy actively sustains this model by relying on institutionalization as a default when family-based alternatives or community resources fail.
This creates a perverse financial ecosystem where the ongoing management of traumatized youth—rather than their successful rehabilitation and transition into permanent, supportive families—sustains the multi-billion dollar residential care economy. Dont be fooled in thinking the group home industry “helps” youth and children recover from trauma-the opposite is the truth…to be honest this disgusts me!!
