“My child is wearing floaties, so they’re safe!” is a common misconception that can lead to children being left unsupervised around water.
Water wings, pool noodles, and other flotation toys are NOT life-saving devices. They can slip off unexpectedly or give inexperienced swimmers the confidence to venture into deeper water before they're ready. A properly fitted life jacket is the safest flotation device and should always be available for any aquatic activity, whether you're at the pool, beach, or lake.
Young children should always remain within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian, and no child should ever be left unsupervised in or around the water.
