I often hear people, including those in my psychology practice, ask “why didn’t s/he tell someone” when referring to a childhood abuse survivor, or “why didn’t s/he leave him/her?” when referring to a domestic violence situation. The issues can be very complex. In this editorial, several of the reasons within the perpetrator-victim relationship are outlined. For those of you who hold these questions, I encourage you to read this article. Given it is intended for professional readers, please feel free to ask me questions if there is anything that is unclear.
