Did you know that more than one-third of seniors fall at home each year? The good news is that the vast majority of these falls are completely preventable with a few small, simple changes to our daily environment. This week, weโre sharing a quick 3-point weekend safety checklist to help keep your loved ones steady on their feet:
1. Tackle the Trippers: Walk through the house and look at the floors. Loose throw rugs, extension cords, or a misplaced pair of shoes can quickly turn into a hazard. Secure rugs with double-sided tape or remove them entirely, and keep clear pathways in high-traffic areas.
2. Brighten the Night: Insufficient lighting is a major culprit for late-night slips. Placing motion-sensor nightlights in hallways, bedrooms, and bathrooms makes navigating in the dark much safer.
3. Move it Down: Rearrange the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Keep the items your loved one uses daily at waist-high or easy-to-reach levels. No one should have to stand on a chair or stretch precariously to grab their favorite mug. Our professional caregivers are trained to perform complete home safety walk-throughs to spot hidden hazards and keep your family safe, active, and independent at home.
