Shockwave Therapy: What to Expect
Your appointment for Shockwave Therapy will run in a similar manner to your normal Physiotherapy sessions. Your Physiotherapist will take the time to assess your injury, and also check in on your symptoms since your previous session.
If Shockwave is indicated as an appropriate treatment, your Physiotherapist will begin by explaining what sensations to expect, followed by a demonstration of how the Shockwave device is operated.
The device will deliver a series of small impulses for approximately 60-90 seconds. You will then get a short break period of 30-60 seconds. This will be repeated for 3-4 sets.
Shockwave Therapy has been proven effective in the treatment of several tendinopathies and repetitive strain injuries. In particular it can be helpful in the recovery of Plantar Fasciopathy, Achilles Tendinopoathy and Tennis Elbow (aka Lateral Epicondylalgia).
Following Shockwave treatment, your Physiotherapist will re-assess your movements and provide the exercises you need to help accelerate your rehabilitation!
