You slept seven hours and woke up with a stiff neck. By 10am, your shoulders are already creeping toward your ears.

That is not tiredness. That is accumulated tension your nervous system stopped flagging as unusual, somewhere between the last calving season, a winter of gravel-road commutes, and the shift work that never quite lets your body clock reset.

Chronic muscle tension rarely announces itself. It just quietly becomes your new baseline until one morning it tips into pain.

Swipe through for the 3 early signs our RMTs watch for:

Morning stiffness that lingers past 30 minutes.
Shoulders that never fully drop, even at rest.
Sleep that leaves you tired instead of restored.

Rest alone will not resolve tension that has been layering in the fascia for months. Hands-on therapeutic massage works directly on the tissue, restores circulation to muscles stuck in low-grade contraction, and gives your nervous system a reason to downshift.

Catching this early means shorter recovery and fewer weeks of pushing through pain that never should have gotten loud in the first place.

Three clients walked in for three completely different reasons last month. Muscle tension, a float session, mobility work.

When we asked how they felt afterward, the same word kept showing up: refreshed.

Emily came in carrying the kind of tension that settles between the shoulder blades after a long workweek. She left feeling "lighter, calmer, and completely refreshed."

Jason booked a float to quiet a mind that wouldn't stop running. Sixty minutes in the tank, and he walked out "grounded and recharged."

Michelle was working on mobility, the stiffness that creeps in from labour-intensive days and long drives. After one session, she noticed "such a difference in my movement and energy."

Different bodies. Different reasons. Same consistent result. That's what evidence-informed care looks like when the work is targeted and the plan is yours.

When a client walks in with chronic neck or back pain, the first thing they usually do is point. Right here. This spot. Make it stop.

We get it. The ache is loud, and the loudest thing feels like the problem.

But the sore spot is rarely the whole story. It's usually the place where days, weeks, or years of something else finally landed.

That's why every session at U(R) Wellness Clinic starts with the same first question: tell us about your day-to-day. What does your body actually do?

Are you spending eight hours in a truck cab on gravel roads? Lifting calves? Working nights and sleeping with the blinds half-closed? Hunched over a laptop with a toddler on your hip? Repairing fence in the cold?

Your shoulder doesn't ache in a vacuum. It aches because of how you hold a steering wheel, how you sleep, how you brace when you lift. The "where it hurts" tells us a little. The "what you do all day" tells us most of it.

Once we know that, we can build a treatment plan that actually addresses the cause, not just the symptom. Safe, evidence-informed, and tailored to the life you're going back to when you walk out the door.

What's the one daily habit you think might be feeding your pain? We'd love to hear it in the comments.

You finally lie down in the float tank after a 12-hour shift, expecting silence. Instead, your brain gets louder than it's been all week.

That's not the therapy failing. That's sensory gating — the nervous system's filter finally letting through everything it's been suppressing since Monday morning.

When you strip away light, sound, and the weight of gravity all at once, the brain stops scanning for the next input and starts processing the backlog. The first 10 to 15 minutes can feel restless. Then the noise drops out, and you get the kind of quiet most people haven't felt in years.

Swipe through to see what's actually happening in those 60 minutes, and why "blank-minded" is the goal, not the side effect.

Ready to meet the quiet on the other side of the noise? Call us at 403-895-9234 or book your float online at urwellnessclinic.ca.

REAL RESULTS + A NEW LOWER PRICE 💛

We're only three weeks into offering our Pelvic Floor Health Chair, and we're already hearing things like…

💬 “My urgency has gone from 9/10 to 4/10.”

💬 “I didn't expect it, but my hip pain went from 6/10 to 2/10.”

💬 “I didn't wear a pad all day — zero leakage, even with snowshoeing and gardening!”

💬 “It's the first time in I don't know how many years that I actually slept through the night.”

💬 “Multiple sneezes… and NO leakage!”

These may sound like little things until you're the person planning outings around bathrooms, wearing a pad “just in case,” waking throughout the night, or worrying about coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercising.

Then they're BIG things.

And we want more people in our community to have the opportunity to see what pelvic floor therapy could do for them.

So we've lowered the price.

We didn't lower the price because we believe in the program any less. After these first few weeks, we're more excited about its potential than ever.

We lowered it because access to care matters to us.

If you've been quietly dealing with urgency, leakage or pelvic floor weakness, we'd love to help you explore whether the Pelvic Floor Health Chair could be an option for you.

You climb into a traditional sauna and the air hits you first. Hot, heavy, hard to breathe. You're sweating before your muscles have a chance to soften.

Infrared works the opposite way. The air stays comfortable, usually around 45 to 60°C, but the heat moves past your skin and into the muscle tissue directly. That's where the recovery actually happens.

For the trades and outdoor crews around Rocky, this matters. After a shift framing in the cold, climbing in and out of a truck, or working a long day in the bush, the ache isn't on the surface. It's deep in the shoulders, the low back, the forearms. Surface heat can't reach it. Infrared can.

The deeper warmth supports circulation, helps ease soft-tissue inflammation, and gives tight muscles a chance to release without the breath-stealing intensity of a traditional sauna. Most people can sit comfortably for a full 30 to 45 minutes, which is part of why it works so well for recovery.

It's not a luxury sweat. It's a tool, and a useful one for bodies that work hard for a living.

An hour of lying still in warm salt water sounds too simple to matter. Then you stand up afterward and realize your whole body just reset.

Float therapy gets dismissed as a spa novelty, but the mechanics are concrete. Ten inches of water, around 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt, no light, no sound, no gravity pulling on your joints. Your body responds to those conditions in specific, measurable ways.

Swipe through for 3 things float therapy actually does once you're in the tank:

→ What happens to your spine when gravity disappears
→ Why your nervous system finally shifts gears
→ How one session can change the way you sleep that night

If you've been running on poor sleep, shift work, or a body that feels heavier than it used to, this is the kind of recovery that doesn't ask much of you. Sixty minutes, no effort required.

Ready to try your first float? Call us at 403-895-9234 or book online at urwellnessclinic.ca.

You walk in, point at your right shoulder, and say "it's right here, work on this." You've been carrying it for weeks. You're sure you know where the problem lives.

Here's what our RMTs see, session after session: the spot that hurts is almost never where the problem started. That tight shoulder is usually the compensation zone, the muscle working overtime because something upstream or downstream stopped pulling its weight. The real restriction is often a stiff mid-back, a locked-up hip, or a forearm that's been gripping tools all week.

If we only work the painful spot, you'll feel better for a day or two. Then the compensation pattern reloads and the ache comes back.

This is why every massage session at U(R) Wellness Clinic starts with a personalized consultation and a full-body assessment. Especially for the tradespeople, shift workers, and physically active folks in Rocky who arrive with a very confident self-diagnosis. Your body works as a connected system, and chronic back, neck, and repetitive strain pain almost always have a quieter source than the loud one.

Trust the assessment. The relief goes deeper and lasts longer when we treat the cause, not just the symptom.

Okay, slightly guilty confession from the clinic.

Your heart rate goes up. Your circulation increases. Your blood vessels dilate and push more oxygen to tired muscle tissue. Your body responds the way it does to a moderate cardio session, except you're sitting still in a wooden room.

That's infrared sauna. The heat penetrates deep into muscle, supports circulation, and helps your body work through post-training soreness, without asking your joints, tendons, or CNS to do another rep.

We're not saying skip the gym. Lifting builds the muscle. But on the day after leg day, or after a long shift on the rigs, or when your hamstrings are still talking to you from Monday, the sauna does a lot of the recovery work for you.

Twenty to thirty minutes. Hydrate before, hydrate after. That's the protocol.

What's your go-to recovery tool after a hard training week. Sauna, float, massage, or just couch and Netflix? Curious what's working for you.

A hot shower feels good on tight shoulders, but the heat stops at your skin. That's why the relief fades by the time you've towelled off.

Infrared sauna works differently. Instead of heating the air around you, infrared wavelengths pass through the skin and reach 4-5cm into muscle and connective tissue. Same comfortable room temperature. Very different depth.

That distinction matters if you've spent the day on a job site, behind the wheel, or hunched over equipment. Surface heat soothes. Infrared reaches the layer where the actual tension is sitting.

Here's what that looks like in the body:

→ Deeper muscle warming that supports circulation to fatigued tissue
→ A comfortable ambient temperature, so it's accessible after soft-tissue injuries
→ Less post-shift stiffness without the suffocating heat of a traditional sauna

It's one of the most approachable recovery tools we offer, especially for clients who can't tolerate the intensity of a conventional sauna but still need real therapeutic depth.
