K’ih tsaaʔdze protection area established

Recently the B.C. government established the K’ih tsaaʔdze protection area under the Environment and Land Use Act, supported by a designated area under Part 13 of the Forest Act.

The protection area will be in place for 10 years. It will help conserve caribou habitat and boreal ecosystems and encourage ecological restoration while DRFN and B.C. complete the long-term K’ih tsaaʔdze plan.

What the designation does:

- Protects the area from new land and resource dispositions and new industrial activity
- Allows existing, lawful activities to continue, provided there is no new disturbance of the land surface
- Restricts forestry activities in the same area for four years

DRFN and the B.C. government remain committed to an inclusive and accessible engagement process, so that everyone with an interest in this land is informed and engaged as the long-term K’ih tsaaʔdze plan is completed. Updates will continue to be posted on the DRFN-BC website.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this historic occasion with Doig River First Nation.

The opening of Naache Commons marks more than a significant economic milestone. It represents our return to Gah Tah Kwa (House in the Spruce), the place known today as Fort St. John and an area deeply connected to the history of the Beaver people.

This moment reflects our Nation's enduring connection to our traditional territory and our commitment to creating opportunities for future generations. As we gather here, we honour the strength, resilience, and vision of those who came before us while building a prosperous future for those yet to come.

We are grateful to all our members, Elders, neighbouring Nations, government representatives, partners, businesses, and community supporters who helped make this day possible and shared in this celebration with us.

For many years, Doig Days has been a cornerstone of our community, bringing people together through cultural exchange, learning, and fun. We are proud to see this tradition continue to thrive.

Beautiful day out for our annual community clean up. Big thank you to Uujo, Trojan Safety, MVP Oilfield Services, Clean Arrow Energy Services, and JDA for coming out and helping keep our community clean, healthy, and looking good for everyone.

And an extra big thank you to these people - Wayne (Uujo) for partnering with Doig to organize the event and bring the cherished swag

Big moment for Doig River First Nation!
We are so proud to see Kekuli Cafe Fort St John begin its soft opening and bring this vision to life. This is more than just coffee and bannock. It is community, culture, and opportunity coming together in a powerful way.

Huge congratulations to everyone who worked hard to make this happen. Your dedication is creating something special for Fort St John and beyond.

An incredible grand opening today at Aẕís Kwą̂ (Hide House), the newest addition to Doig’s cultural grounds.

This space will bring our community together through hands on learning, from hide processing to meet preparation, strengthening skills that have always been part of who we are.

As we continue walking the path of revitalizing our traditional ways, we are also embracing modern tools to carry this knowledge forward for generations to come.

Today we are proud to celebrate 7 years of success with UUJO.

This milestone did not come easy. It is the result of years of hard work, long days, and a strong vision carried forward by dedicated people who believed in what was possible for our Nation. From the early stages to where we stand today, that commitment has made Uujo a reality.

Through this work, we continue to build a strong and sustainable future for Doig River First Nation, creating opportunity and supporting the next generation.

We congratulate all that have been part of this journey and look forward to seeing what the future will bring.
