NBMEDFI has been established for bursaries to New Brunswick medical students to encourage them to return to practice in NB.

The bursaries are open to New Brunswick residents accepted for studies at an accredited Medical School who are committed to establishing their medical practice in the province.

Rencontrez Abdel Slimane, l’un de nos boursiers 2025 et futur médecin du Nouveau-Brunswick!

Ville d’origine : Moncton (Nouveau-Brunswick)
Étudiant au : Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick, promotion 2028

Abdel est étudiant en deuxième année de médecine à l’Université de Sherbrooke (CFMNB). Il est titulaire d’un diplôme en sciences de la santé de l’Université de Moncton. Après l’obtention de son diplôme en médecine, il souhaite entreprendre une résidence en chirurgie générale ou en médecine interne.

Abdel est très engagé au sein de la communauté de Moncton. Il agit comme tuteur de français auprès des nouveaux arrivants avec le CAFI, fait du bénévolat dans le cadre du programme de petits-déjeuners de l’École Saint-Henri et s’implique également auprès du Faubourg du Mascaret. Passionné de sport depuis toujours, il continue de pratiquer le volleyball de façon récréative et a auparavant travaillé pour Soccer Dieppe à titre d’adjoint administratif.

« La province fait face à d’importants défis en matière de santé, notamment en ce qui concerne l’accès aux soins dans les régions rurales et éloignées. En tant que futur médecin, je suis déterminé à contribuer à la réduction de ces inégalités en offrant des soins de qualité et en participant activement à la promotion de la santé au sein des communautés. »

Nous sommes fiers d’appuyer la prochaine génération de professionnels de la santé au Nouveau-Brunswick!

Meet Madison Herrington, one of our 2025 scholarship recipients and future N.B. doctor!

Hometown: Quispamsis, New Brunswick
Attending: Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, Class of 2027

Madison is a third-year medical student attending Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of New Brunswick.

Madison is heavily involved in the DMNB community as the Community Engaged Service Learning Representative. Through this role she helps partner her peers with a local non-for-profit where they can complete their CESL project. She also continues to present her research on ageism at various conferences including the CPA conference and the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

“My experiences growing up developed my sense of fidelity and pride for NB and its members. It is of upmost importance to me to be able to give back to the members of New Brunswick and within my community by providing healthcare as a physician.”

Rencontrez Mohamed Mounir Beldjilali, l’un de nos boursiers 2025 et futur médecin du Nouveau-Brunswick!

Ville d’origine : Bathurst (Nouveau-Brunswick)
Étudiant au : Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick, promotion 2028

Mohamed est étudiant en deuxième année de médecine à l’Université de Sherbrooke (CFMNB). Il est titulaire d’un diplôme en sciences de la santé de l’Université de Moncton.

Mohamed est un membre engagé du Groupe d’intérêt en santé mondiale du CFMNB. Dans le cadre de ce groupe, il organise diverses activités portant sur des enjeux liés à la santé. Récemment, il a coordonné une activité axée sur la santé et l’environnement qui comprenait une opération de nettoyage des déchets aux abords du campus du CFMNB. Il consacre également une partie de son temps libre au bénévolat auprès du Centre de ressources familiales de la Ville de Dieppe.

« Au Nouveau-Brunswick, et particulièrement dans les régions rurales, les besoins en médecins de famille, en spécialistes et en personnel de la santé sont très importants. Puisque l’accès aux soins de santé devrait être une priorité et que la vie ainsi que le bien-être de la population sont essentiels, j’ai l’intention de contribuer modestement à l’atteinte de cet objectif. »

A record number of future physicians and allied health professionals are ready to commit to New Brunswick. This year, we received an incredible 289 applications for scholarships!

As our Grants Committee reviews applications, our team is in awe of these students' collective talent, dedication, and passion. We wish each of them the very best.

Each one of these applicants is willing to accept a return-to-service scholarship and serve New Brunswick patients. We are so grateful to them and to the donors who empower us provide these awards.

Together, we are investing in the healthcare workforce our province needs for the future.

Un nombre record de futurs médecins et professionnels de la santé alliés sont prêts à s’engager envers le Nouveau-Brunswick. Cette année, nous avons reçu un nombre impressionnant de 289 demandes de bourses!

Alors que notre comité des subventions étudie les candidatures, notre équipe est impressionnée par le talent, le dévouement et la passion dont font preuve ces étudiants. Nous leur souhaitons à tous la meilleure des chances.

Meet Daniel Deschênes, one of our 2025 scholarship recipients and future N.B. doctor!

Hometown: Upper Kingsclear, New Brunswick
Attending: Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, Class of 2028

Daniel is a second-year medical student attending Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from the University of New Brunswick. Upon graduation he hopes to begin a residency in Nephrology or Plastic Surgery.

Daniel is a passionate athlete having played for the UNB Tennis Team, Team Atlantic Volleyball at the Canada Cup, and having coached for both the New Brunswick Women’s Beach Volleyball Team at the Canada Games and a multitude of youth teams in rural communities across the province. Within the academic community, he has volunteered for numerous research projects on a variety of topics including anatomy, drug design, biochemistry, and organic chemistry.

“I know many communities in NB, and I understand the challenges our province faces, especially in healthcare. I believe it would be irresponsible not to be part of the solution, and I know my well-being is strongest when surrounded by the people and places I love.”

Meet Amy Dodge, one of our 2025 scholarship recipients and future N.B. doctor!

Hometown: Moncton, New Brunswick
Attending: Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, Class of 2028

Amy is a second-year medical student attending Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. She holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biology from Saint Francis Xavier University and a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Applied Health Research from Dalhousie University. Upon graduation she hopes to begin a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Internal Medicine.

Amy is a strong representative of DMNB as an Ask a Med Student representative for the Faculty of Medicine Admissions. Following her father’s cancer diagnosis, she has dedicated her time to advocating for those affected by brain cancer by participating in the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s Annual Brain Tumour Walk and working in partnership with Canadian Blood Services to organize a blood drive in her father’s honour.

“Over the years, I’ve met so many welcoming people who are eager to collaborate and support one another. I know that as a physician practicing here, I’ll continue to encounter that same kindred spirit, not just from colleagues, but from patients as well. I’ve already seen it in my first year of training and I hope to give back to this community who is so important in my medical education journey.”
