What if you stopped trying to capture the moment… and simply experienced it?

Last week I went to a concert with my daughter and I noticed there were a lot of people watching it through their phones. Recording. Taking pictures. Capturing the experience. And honestly~to each their own.

But I realized something afterwards…

I didn't reach for my phone once.

I was completely lost in the music. The talent of the artists. Every note. Every lyric. The energy of the room.

I was present.

And it felt amazing.

Maybe I'm just getting old 😂 but there was something so beautiful about not needing to capture the moment because I was too busy living it.

It also made me think about how much of our attention our devices consume and how they distract us from life.
And believe me, I'm guilty too. I doom scroll. I pick up my phone without even knowing why.

But lately, I'm trying to choose differently.

Read a book.
Spend time outside.
Connect with people.
Try something new.
People watch.
Listen to the music. Be where I actually am.

I've been reading Dopamine Nation by Dr. Anna Lembke, and it's given me some important reminders about our constant need for stimulation and how easily we can become uncomfortable with simply being, and how we are always looking for something to fill up the gaps in our lives. Devices, food, alcohol~you get my point.

But maybe life isn't supposed to feel good all the time.
Maybe we're meant to experience it all.

The joy.
The boredom.
The discomfort.
The laughter.
The quiet.
The uncertainty.

Because this is life.

And perhaps that's part of what we're practicing on the mat.
Not just flexibility.
Not just strength.
But the ability to be here.
To notice when we've wandered away and gently come back.

To our breath.
To our bodies.
To the person in front of us.
To the music.
To the sunset.
To this one, unrepeatable moment.

This is it.

So this week, I'm practicing presence.

What might you experience if you put the phone down and simply allowed yourself to be where you are?
(This pre-concert selfie is the only one I have from the night!) sades🥂

It’s hard to believe that Ananda Glō Yoga has been open for 8 years. 8 years of community, continuous learning, practicing, and connecting. I’m so grateful to all who have been and remain a part of our beautiful community. Here’s 8 things that yoga has taught me, (There’s many more lessons but not enough space!)

What changes when you stop rushing and start paying attention?

So much of life encourages us to move faster, do more, and get to the next thing. Yoga offers a different invitation: to slow down enough to truly experience the moment you're in.

This week we'll explore what happens when we move with intention rather than urgency allowing breath, awareness, and presence to guide the practice.

Where in your life could you benefit from slowing down and moving more deliberately?

I’ve been spending some time reflecting on Satya ~ truthfulness the 2nd yama from the Yoga Sutra.

Truthfulness is not just in what we say… but in how we live.

Yoga has a way of revealing where we’re out of alignment with ourselves:
pushing when we need rest,
forcing when we need softness,
saying yes when our body is asking for pause or sometimes moving through life performing versions of ourselves we think we should be.

Living with integrity doesn’t mean having everything figured or being perfect.

It means becoming more honest about what is true in this moment.

Maybe the practice isn’t about becoming someone different.

Maybe it’s about returning to yourself often enough that your life begins to feel more aligned, a life grounded in truth.
