Cupping therapy has been used for centuries and remains a popular tool for relieving muscle tension, improving mobility, and supporting recovery.
Using gentle suction, cups lift the tissues beneath the skin rather than compressing them. This creates space between layers of tissue and encourages circulation within the treated area.
One of the most common questions we hear is: "What do the marks mean?"
The circular marks left behind, what we like to call cup kisses, are a normal response to the suction created by the cups.
Areas with greater tension, tissue restriction, congestion, or reduced circulation often produce darker marks, while healthier, freer moving tissues may show very little colour change. The marks are not bruises and do not indicate damage to the tissue. Rather, they reflect how that particular area responded to treatment on that day.
Potential benefits of cupping may include:
-Supporting circulation
-Helping ease muscle tension
-Encouraging mobility and tissue glide
-Supporting recovery after activity
-Promoting relaxation
And don't worry—those cup kisses are temporary. They typically fade over the course of several days to a couple of weeks.
