☀️ Sunshine, music, great food, and even greater people!

Our HDS Family gathered yesterday for our annual BBQ to celebrate 21 years of providing rehabilitation and complex care to Niagara residents. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues, celebrate our achievements, and reflect on the privilege of serving our community every day.

Last year, Frank crossed the Hope in Motion track surrounded by the cheers of family, friends, and the care team that helped make his recovery possible.

This year, he'll be back to do it again.

Meet Frank, one of our Hope in Motion graduates. 🩷💜💚🩵💛

Frank knows what it means to overcome adversity.

After a stroke in 2012, he worked hard to regain his independence and eventually earned his driver's licence back. When a second, far more severe stroke struck in January 2024, his family was told he might never walk, eat, speak, or even recognize them again.

But Frank refused to give up.

With determination, the support of his family, and the compassionate care of his rehab team at Hotel Dieu Shaver, he achieved milestones that once seemed impossible. From regaining strength and communication skills to having his feeding tube removed, every step forward became a victory worth celebrating.

Today, Frank continues to inspire those around him with his positivity and perseverance.

"When you smile, everyone smiles. Being happy helps you heal."

Last year, Frank and his family participated in Hope in Motion as Team Hot Wheels, completing five laps together. This year, he's determined to meet and beat that goal.
