Don Neufeld, Social Worker/Therapist

Don Neufeld, Social Worker/Therapist A forum for sharing with my clients and others the materials that I find meaningful, as resources for personal and societal change. I welcome your feedback.

I have chosen to set up this page as an opportunity to share resources and personal comments for clients and friends who choose to follow. I am committed to the confidentiality of my clients, and I caution you from posting in ways that will identify you. You will find general clinical and social materials that I feel add helpful information as food for thought. You will also note that som

e of the content has a "religious" flavour, and I hope that no one will feel compelled to believe or follow any specific creed that is not comfortable for you. I post such content because I do have a fair number of clients for whom faith is central to their journey of life.

You know that feeling when you're triggered, and every cell in your body is screaming at you to say the thing and make your point right now?

That urgency is a liar.

When that wave of reactivity hits – when you're sure you need to act this second – that's not wisdom talking. That's the youngest, most wounded part of you running the show.

Breath is what brings you back.

It creates a gap between what happened and what you do next. And in that gap lives every relational skill you've ever learned.

You cannot repair anything from a state of urgency. The part of you that's flooded with reactivity cannot also be the part that loves well.

One breath won't fix your relationship. But it will return you to the version of yourself who can.

A very important and clear post on anger

07/06/2026

If there was one message I could leave people with, it would be this:

There is no redeeming value whatsoever in harshness. There is nothing that harshness does that loving firmness doesn’t do better.

Anger doesn't make you more effective. You can stand your ground without tearing someone down. You can hold yourself accountable without beating yourself up.

At my 75, I've made a deal with the universe. If it's unkind, I'm not interested. Whether it's unkind between others, between others and me, or between me and me.

Try it for a day. Before you speak to your partner, to your kid, or to yourself in the mirror, ask: Does what I'm about to say fall below the line of basic respect?

If the answer is yes, don’t say it.

That's the daily practice of living a relational life.

Like this post if you're ready to make the commitment – for yourself, and for everyone you love.
