🤱 Why do lactating breasts look so much "hotter" on thermography?

These two thermographic images show one of the most dramatic physiological differences we see in breast imaging.

During lactation, the breasts become incredibly metabolically active. Milk production requires:
✨ Increased blood flow
✨ Higher oxygen consumption
✨ Greater nutrient delivery
✨ Constant glandular activity

All of this creates significantly more heat, which is why lactating breasts often appear much brighter (white/red) on a thermogram.

Once breastfeeding has stopped, the metabolic demand decreases, blood flow returns closer to baseline, and the thermal pattern becomes much cooler and more uniform.

This is a perfect reminder that breast tissue is constantly changing throughout life:
• Puberty
• Menstrual cycles
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
• Perimenopause & menopause
• Hormone therapy

Thermography doesn't diagnose breast cancer. Instead, it measures physiological changes—looking at heat patterns, vascular activity, and inflammation—to establish your unique baseline and monitor changes over time.
