This year's National AccessAbility Week theme, "Building a Strong, Accessible Canada," reminds us that accessibility is everyone's responsibility, and that conversations about accessibility and inclusion can start at any age.

Classroom Accessibility Allies, a collaboration between CNIB and the Rick Hansen Foundation, was created to help young learners better understand accessibility and inclusion, recognize barriers to participation in their classrooms, and become champions for accessibility in their schools and communities.

Designed for primary-grade classrooms, Classroom Accessibility Allies is a free resource that gives educators practical ways to introduce accessibility and inclusion concepts to young learners. Through hands-on activities, students are guided through a structured process of identifying barriers in their own classrooms, thinking critically about solutions, and reflecting on what it means to create environments where everyone can participate and be included.

We're proud to share that nearly 200 people have already downloaded Classroom Accessibility Allies, helping bring accessibility and inclusion learning into classrooms throughout Canada and empowering the next generation of accessibility advocates and leaders.

If you’ve already downloaded the resource and used it in your classroom, be sure to submit your reflection activity to receive your certificate of completion and celebrate your commitment to creating more inclusive classrooms.

Haven’t explored Classroom Accessibility Allies yet? Download the free resource today and start breaking down barriers with your students: https://www.rickhansen.com/Accessibility-Allies

This project is made possible thanks to The Slaight Family Foundation.

People with visual impairments, when visiting a restroom, will often need to touch more surfaces than sighted individuals in order to locate the same facilities.

Tom Babinszki, an accessibility consultant at Even Grounds, has the solution through his project: tactile 3D-printed restroom maps. These maps are mini replicas of a restroom that you can feel—showing miniature versions of the sink, toilet, paper holder, hand dryer, urinals, and doors. Placed next to the ADA restroom sign, they let you preview the layout before entering, so you can navigate independently with minimal contact with surfaces.
