Every time a new technology arrives, the same fear follows.
Calculators. GPS. Now AI.
"Is it going to replace us?"
As someone who has spent decades working with autistic children and their families, my answer is simple: No. Not even close.
AI cannot sit across from a worried parent and truly understand the weight they are carrying.
It cannot notice the tiny tremble in a mother's voice.
It cannot feel the joy of hearing a child say a first word after months, or years, of waiting.
But it can help clinicians spend less time on paperwork and more time with families.
It can support parents between appointments instead of leaving them in silence.
The future of autism care isn't AI versus clinicians.
It's AI and clinicians, with human judgment exactly where it belongs: at the center.
I wrote about this on the NeuroAI blog. Would love to hear your thoughts. đź”— https://neuroai.ca/can-ai-support-autism-care-without-replacing-human-judgment/
