Loneliness is a terrible feeling and the urgency to feel connection can be overwhelming. Connection, even if it's with a computer, can be the difference between wanting to live and wanting to die. For many, the illusion of connection feels better than no connection at all. As all forms of healthcare get more expensive, AI can feel like the best option. Maybe it is. Maybe using AI when you can't get the help you need is harm reduction.

That said, AI can't listen to you, even if it can make you feel heard. It can't get to know you, even when it feels familiar. It can't care about you, even if it's algorithm can predict the words you've always needed to hear.

I spent many years working in case management, supporting folks in part by connecting them with resources they didn't know were available or didn't have the spoons to access. If this sounds like something you need, message me here or book a free consultation with me. I'm not going to charge a fee for a few tips on where and to access supports.

To put a bow on this AI post, let's consider the words of Jurassic Park's Dr Ian Malcolm, "If I may... Um, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, ... your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."

John Oliver discusses AI chatbots, why they’re flirting with users unprompted and encouraging people to open soggy cereal cafes, and how their flaws can be g...

Depression and anxiety, rocky relationships, trouble communicating? These are the challenges I've been trained to work with.

You don't have to keep holding it all together on your own.
I work with people who are used to being strong for others but don't know how much longer they can keep it up.
