We’re so excited to welcome Krista to the Urquhart Program team 🄰

ā€œMy name is Krista. I am a graduate student at UNB pursuing a Masters of Education in Counselling. I am excited to be able to offer counselling services with the Urquhart Program while I complete my internship at Gentle Path Counselling Services. My professional background is rooted in the helping professions, having worked in the past as a teacher, a birth doula and as a Registered Midwife. Counselling feels like a natural extension for me as I continue to help support others.ā€

Krista will be able to offer ā€œpay what you canā€ counselling services and she will start seeing clients in September. Call, email, or fill out a self-referral form on the Gentle Path website if you’re interested in booking with Krista!

We have BIG news to share….

The Urquhart Program is growing šŸŽ‰

We’re SO excited to welcome Amanda to the team!! She is kind, caring, and shares all the values that the Urquhart Program stands by šŸ’œ Below is a glimpse of what she’s bringing to the program. We’re incredibly lucky to have her!

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Amanda is a Licensed Counselling Therapist–Candidate (LCT-C) with a background in education, child and family development, and mental health. She holds a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Master of Education in Counselling from the University of New Brunswick, bringing together a strong foundation in human development with a warm, relational counselling approach. She has also completed specialized training in reproductive trauma, further deepening her ability to support individuals and families navigating complex emotional experiences related to pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

For over a decade, Amanda has worked closely with children and families in education supporting them as they navigate the emotional realities that can accompany raising a child with additional needs. She has seen the profound impact that early experiences, caregiver well-being, and compassionate support can have on the entire family. These experiences inspired her to focus her counselling practice on the perinatal period, where early and meaningful support can make a lasting difference for parents and their children. Amanda also carries a personal understanding of how quickly the early postpartum period can become shaped by medical uncertainty and unexpected turns. These combined experiences have deepened her sensitivity to the many ways the perinatal journey can unfold, and her commitment to meeting parents with compassion, steadiness, and care during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Amanda’s approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in real-life understanding. She believes healing happens in relationships where people feel safe, accepted, and not alone in what they are carrying. Her work is strengths-based and trauma-informed, supporting clients as they process their experiences and feel less alone in what they are carrying. She is honoured to be part of the Urquhart Program and to walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate pregnancy, birth, postpartum adjustment, loss, and the many emotional layers of becoming a parent.

If you’re interested in booking with Amanda, self-referral forms can be found and completed online on the Gentle Path website under Urquhart Program šŸ’œ

Hi everyone šŸ™‚ We wanted to pop on and share some of the things we’ve been up to in the Urquhart program!

In May, we had the opportunity to present to the Canadian Neonatal Follow-Up Network šŸŽ‰

Over the last week, we’ve been fortunate to meet and speak with some other incredible groups of people!

We had the opportunity to speak with FACE (Family and Child Education) to help raise awareness of birth trauma in our community. We also had the privilege of speaking to a nursing class at UNBSJ!

Thank you to all of these groups for welcoming us and for being part of creating safer beginnings for families šŸ’œ

We look forward to being back at UNBSJ in the coming weeks!

Hi everyone! šŸ’œ

A lot has been happening behind the scenes in the Urquhart Program! We’ve been busy attending meetings, raising awareness, and making connections with wonderful people in our community.

Some of these connections included being able to speak at an NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Instructor Workshop and at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (with a special guest from the PowerPoint šŸ˜‰). Thank you to both of these groups for inviting us to share on such an important topic šŸ’œ

As a reminder:

• The Urquhart Program offers FREE ā€œcheck-insā€ post discharge from hospital. Self-referral is available on the Gentle Path website.

• It also offers counselling/support for a variety of perinatal (pregnancy, birth, postpartum) concerns.

As always, if cost is a concern, please reach out to us šŸ’œ

At the end of February, CBC news released interviews that were done at the office with some wonderful parents and some of the Urquhart Program team! We had trouble sharing the link directly, but if you want to have a listen, the title is below šŸ™‚

A big THANK YOU to CBC for helping us raise awareness of the program and of course an even bigger THANK YOU to the parents who spoke and helped create it. Some parents couldn’t make it, but know we are beyond grateful for you too!! šŸ’œ

Thank you to CBC for interviewing us and helping raise awareness about The Urquhart program šŸ’œ

An even bigger thank you to the parents who shared their stories and helped make this program what it is. We know a few parents couldn’t make the interview, but know that we are so grateful for you! šŸ’œ

Sometimes we find it difficult to explain the program for exactly what it is. When we thought about it, it’s because it’s A LOT of different things. There’s many moving parts that aren’t always seen and it’s much more than a program that offers counselling. It’s multidisciplinary, it’s complex, it’s designed to be flexible, receive feedback, and grow/change WITH that feedback. We’re so proud that the program we created allows for more bubbles to be added as time goes on.

Growth is healthy and we wanted a program that could grow and change as it ran; adjusing to the needs of the population we aim to help.

This is what the program has always looked like in my (Sarah’s) head. I thought I would share it with you all because it might add some clarity to what the program truly is and what it will be capable of šŸ’œ. It’s only been officially running for a little over a month so some of these things are in progress, BUT the cool part is, they’re all running!

The program also doesn’t solely focus on birth trauma. It’s a program for any challenge that might occur in the perinatal period (during pregnancy, birth, and/or postpartum). But raising awareness of birth trauma is a big part of the education and awareness aspects because it deserves a spotlight due to being under recognized.

The EPIQ conference in Banff was such a great experience! A room that was filled every day with people who share the same passion for helping and supporting babies and their familiesšŸ’œ

Not only did we get to share what we’ve been up to in New Brunswick (offering presentations/education on Trauma Informed Perinatal Care and The Urquhart program), but we also got to network with people from all over Canada and met some incredible parent partners!

We feel so grateful to be doing this work šŸ’œ

A big thank you to Dr. Newman and Dr. Nunes for all their help and support. It wouldn’t have been possible (or as pretty- the poster was beautiful) without you both!

**Sarah has a few appointments left in Feb and openings in March if anyone is looking to make an appointment. Also, please spread the word about the ā€œcheck insā€ after hospital discharge, they are free šŸ’œ

This evening, we got to show the office space to some of the parents who helped create The Urquhart Program! šŸ’œ

We also did some interviews that we’ll share more about later šŸ˜‰

What a great full circle moment having some of them in the office space and being able to reflect on the program and why it exists. We feel SO grateful!
