Instagram vs. Reality ⬇️

We had a wonderful weekend at Kouchi. Canoe camping is always a treat. Beautiful weather, spending quality time with family, watching our kids being creative in nature, watching shooting starts in the night sky, seeing bioluminescence dance in the night waters, seeing the fog come up with the stillness of the morning, having coffee outside, feeling no rush.

Making memories and traditions being built.

But the reality not shown in here:
- woke up with a very stiff and sore neck and upper back the morning of departure
- we forgot our tent polls so my husband had to drive all the way back to go get them
- this meant that i was the only adult in the canoe and had to paddle for 1:40 with an already very stiff neck.. so when we got to camp, i couldn’t move my neck at all (thank you advils)
- randomly having insomnia so slept probably for only 3h.. if that
- the kids and myself probably waking up everyone with our coughing at 6am
- 150 mosquito bites
- taking the decision to leave a day early due to the heavy rains it was calling for

The reality is that there is always something untold behind those pictures. But those things are also part of the beautiful memories being made.

The next time we’ll go, we’ll laugh saying remember last time when we forgot our polls 🥲🤦🏼‍♀️ (we had already brought up that one time we showed up without our tent a couple years back.. 😂 our track record for kouchi is not the best lolollll)

This summer has been very busy both personally and professionally.

I thought we would have a very relaxed summer, but it always ends up being busy with last minute plans, camping trips, chasing sports, seeing friends and spending precious time with family.

Professionally, my caseload has been steadily increasing and I found most of my weeks fully booked (gratitude). I am also working a lot behind the scenes on my business and doing my 400h breathwork teacher training. I’ve also signing up for another important training that will start this fall (more on this later 👀).

This week everything seems to be slowing down. My work week is lighter and Monday morning, i had nothing in my schedule. I decided to take the morning completely off, put away my phone and do things that fills my cup.

It’s difficult to find balance but I am paying attention to my body and mind and giving myself permission, without guilt, to slow down when i need to.

Welcome to the Restigouche. 🛶
The place that steals my heart every year. The place where i can feel my nervous system take a breath. The place where we laugh all weekend. The place where we sit in silence together. The place where we notice nature’s beauty.

This is your reminder to go play in nature this weekend 🌿🪻🌞🌊

On this week’s episode of Thursday Talk with a Therapist, I talk about how difficult it is to find the positive in the negative. I share a story that happened on a recent canoe camping trip where i found myself spiralling.

I also share that even thought I am a therapist and have a lot of tools, I’m still a human and I spiral too.

Kinda chic trend infertility edition ⬇️

Did you know that:
- about 1 in 6 people of reproductive age experience infertility during their lifetime worldwide.
- infertility is not “just a women’s issue.” It can involve male factors, female factors, a combination of factors, or unexplained factors.
- there isn’t always a clear explanation and this can make it even more difficult to accept.
- someone can experience infertility after previously having a child. This is called secondary infertility.
- infertility can involve grief, even when there was never a pregnancy.
- infertility can affect relationships. Partners may cope differently, have different timelines or treatment preferences, or struggle to communicate.
- infertility is a medical condition, not something a person causes by worrying too much or failing to think positively.. so please stop saying “just relax”.

It is so difficult for some going through fertility issues to feel understood. This can be so isolating. The couple can take a step back from social situations due the the painful reminders every time someone asks a questions or other times, the people in their lives takes a step back because they don’t know how to properly support them.

Infertility touches every aspect of the couple’s lives. It becomes all consuming and it is difficult for them to not have thoughts around it constantly. Every life decision, from small to big, is always thought through that lens - how will the decision that i will take affect my fertility journey.

I am so sorry if you relate to this. My heart breaks for you to keep on chasing a dream that feels out of reach. Please get professional support while navigating this. It will make you feel less alone, more supported, more understood and give you tools to try to help navigate through this chapter of your life.
