When supporting children on the autism spectrum, understanding the whole child can be an important part of the journey.
Two tests that may provide additional information are Heavy Metal Hair Analysis and the Organic Acids Test (OAT). 🧪
🌿 Heavy Metal Hair Analysis can help assess exposure to certain metals and may offer clues about a child’s exposure history. The results need to be interpreted carefully, as hair testing has limitations and does not diagnose heavy metal toxicity on its own.
🌿 The Organic Acids Test (OAT) looks at certain metabolic by-products in urine. Depending on the findings, it may provide information about aspects of metabolism, nutrient-related pathways, and markers associated with gut microbial activity. These results can help guide further investigation when interpreted alongside a child’s symptoms and medical history.
đź’š Why am I sharing this?
I’m currently working with the family of a 4-year-old child on the autism spectrum. After reviewing the results of both tests, we developed a more individualized approach to supporting the child’s needs.
The family has observed some wonderful improvements so far! ❤️ Treatment is still ongoing, and I’m hopeful that we will continue to see positive progress as we move forward.
Every child is unique, and there is no single test or approach that works for everyone.
But that’s not all…
👏 These parents also took on the challenging task of changing their child’s diet to eliminate sugar and gluten. Anyone who has tried to make significant dietary changes for a young child knows this is no easy feat! It takes commitment, patience, and consistency.
And guess what?
🎉 The temper tantrums are gone!
What a wonderful change for this child and family. ❤️
✨ My philosophy is to look beyond the surface, ask questions, and explore how we can best support each individual child.
Have you ever explored functional testing as part of your child’s wellness journey? I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments.
By the way, these tests are not only for kids. Many auto-immune conditions and other chronic health conditions will also benefit.
