Every cleaning I do, every single one, includes an oral cancer screening. Tongue, cheeks, palate, throat, lymph nodes. Takes about 90 seconds.

Oral cancer often doesn't hurt in the early stages. By the time it does, it's usually advanced. So I'm looking for:
🔎 Unusual patches or sores
🔎 Texture changes
🔎 Lumps or asymmetry
🔎 Anything that's been hanging around longer than 2 weeks

If something looks off, I refer you straight to your physician or dentist. Early detection changes outcomes.

Plot twist: "plaque" isn't really plaque. It's biofilm. 🦠

Your toothbrush is great, but it can't fully clear what builds up below the gum line. Biofilm is basically a microscopic city of bacteria that:
• Hardens into tartar
• Inflames your gums
• Has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and sleep issues

Once it's hardened, only a professional cleaning gets it off. Brushing and flossing keep it manageable between visits. I take care of the parts they can't reach.

So "I brush twice a day, I'm fine" is half true. The other half is me. 😉

I'm Carrie Otto, the face (and the hands) behind Carrie The Toothfairy. I've been a registered dental hygienist for 16 years, and I opened my own clinic right here in town so I could do this work my way: calm, unrushed, and actually focused on you.

What that looks like:
✨ I take time to explain what's going on in your mouth, no jargon dumps
✨ I treat anxious patients like the smart adults they are
✨ I help you sort out CDCP, MSP, and insurance, no runaround

Today was one of those days where everything just clicked. ✨

Huge thank you to my talented friend, Lyudmila Kormich for making me feel like a million bucks. Hair on point, vibes immaculate, as always. We found some of my favourite spots around town. Starting with Salmon Arm’s farmers market, swinging by Anvil Coffee collective for yummy drinks and finishing up in McGuire Lake Park.

This is what small-business life looks like around here. Real friends where everyone lifts each other up. This community is everything, and I'm so proud to be part of it. 💛

Mother’s Day looks different for so many. Some mothers have support but many do not. For some it represents joy, love and peace. For some it represents loss, struggle, loneliness and pain. ❤️ Some women are lifted up in motherhood and some are shoved down. Some women struggle to become mothers and today many will mourn theirs, alive or dead 💔

For most of us it’s a beautiful mixture of both. 🥰 I’m wishing all the mum’s out there, a day that you celebrate yourself. 🙌 However that looks for you.

Remember to be kind with your posts as they can be triggers for friends and family struggling today as you celebrate! 🙏🏻 🦷🧚🏼‍♀️
