I am writing to share a big announcement: I will be taking a year-long leave from my naturopathic practice starting November 1, 2026.
I am doing this because it turns out that holding what has become a significant community organization is a really big deal! I am so passionate about Madrona and deeply proud of what we have created and what we offer the community, and, building Madrona over the past six years while also continuing to practice medicine has been a lot. I have reached a point where I need to make a change.
I will be taking the next year to tend to Madrona’s internal foundations. I have a series of major projects in mind to continue building, strengthening, and polishing our operational and HR systems, and I will be mentoring members of our team into leadership roles. One of my goals is for Madrona to be a truly exceptional place to work.
Madrona has grown enormously since I started the clinic, far beyond what I could have imagined in the beginning. We’re continuing to grow with our new clinic space in Crofton. I am so proud of how far we’ve come, and taking this year away from my practice will give me the time and capacity to do the work of moving us beyond the early (crazy!) startup years of building and into its next stage as a mature, sustainable organization. I look forward to returning to practice next year as part of a stronger organization and a more supported team.
While I am on leave, Dr. Patrick Callas will be acting as my locum. He’s truly an excellent doctor and I’m grateful for his support in stepping in this way. Although he doesn’t have the same primary practice focus in perimenopause and menopause that I do, he is experienced in this area among others and is one of the most knowledgeable doctors I know.
I will continue on a limited schedule to provide PAPs, IUD insertions and removals, and medication abortions both on Salt Spring and in Crofton during this year, as these are unique services that I provide.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in me as your doctor, and for being part of Madrona as it has grown. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of caring for you, and I look forward to returning to practice next year.
With deep care and consideration,
Dr. Hannah
