πŸ’š Can Gastroparesis Affect Your Heart? πŸ’š

πŸ’š This is something many people don’t talk about β€” but yes, Gastroparesis can affect your heart… just not always in the way you might think.

πŸ’š It’s usually not the heart itself that’s the problem β€” it’s the effects Gastroparesis has on your body πŸ’š

⚑ Electrolyte Imbalances
Ongoing vomiting, dehydration, or poor intake can lower important minerals like potassium and magnesium.
These are essential for your heart rhythm, and when they’re off, you may notice:
β€’ Heart palpitations
β€’ Irregular heartbeat
β€’ Dizziness or feeling faint

πŸ’§ Dehydration
When your body is low on fluids, your heart has to work harder. This can cause:
β€’ Rapid heart rate
β€’ Low blood pressure
β€’ Feeling lightheaded, especially when standing

🧠 Vagus Nerve Connection
The vagus nerve plays a role in both digestion and heart rate.
When it’s not functioning properly, it can lead to:
β€’ Heart rate fluctuations
β€’ Palpitations
β€’ That β€œshaky” or uneasy feeling

πŸ₯„ Malnutrition
If your body isn’t getting enough nutrients over time, it can affect your overall strength β€” including your heart.
β€’ Fatigue
β€’ Weakness
β€’ Reduced energy

πŸ’ The Overlap
Pain, nausea, and stress on the body can also trigger:
β€’ Racing heart
β€’ Chest tightness
β€’ Anxiety-like symptoms

🚨 Please don’t ignore these signs:
β€’ Ongoing or severe palpitations
β€’ Chest pain
β€’ Fainting or near fainting
β€’ Fast or irregular heartbeat

πŸ’š The truth is:
Gastroparesis doesn’t usually directly damage your heart β€” but it can absolutely affect how your heart functions.

πŸ’š Your symptoms are real. Your body is communicating with you. And you deserve to feel safe, heard, and supported πŸ’š

πŸ’š Sending love to everyone navigating this πŸ’š
