Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

This day invites us to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and support the ongoing journey of truth, healing, and reconciliation.

At LutherCare Communities, we acknowledge that our work reaches lands covered by Treaties 4 and 6, the traditional territory of the Cree, and the homeland of the Métis. While September 30 is an important day of reflection, reconciliation is not a one-day event. It is an ongoing journey that calls us to listen, learn, and act throughout the year.

A huge thank you to Cort Dogniez for taking the time to sit with us at Luther Heights and share his stories.

Cort is a gifted storyteller whose teachings draw on stories shared by his kohkom ('grandmother'), Clara Delorme, as well as his many years in education and Indigenous community leadership. He is also a published children's author. His first book, Road to La Prairie Ronde, was published by Gabriel Dumont Institute and received two nominations from the Saskatchewan Book Awards.

It was an incredible opportunity to gather, listen, and deepen our understanding of the relationships and responsibilities that connect us all.

As summer begins to wind down, we'd like to recognize the incredible people who joined LutherCare Communities through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Throughout the summer, they supported residents and tenants, helping with programs and events, assisting with administration and communications, and lending a hand wherever needed.

Their enthusiasm, dedication, and fresh perspectives have made a real difference, and we're grateful for everything they've brought to our communities.
