At Passing Paws After Care we use the gentle process of Aquamation. Aquamation is an environmentally friendly alternative to cremation or burial. It uses water to return the pet back to nature (the process of hydrolysis), since pets and humans are already made up of 65% water. This is the same process that occurs naturally when a pet is buried, only this is an accelerated, sterile process. Aquamat

ion is considered to be the green alternative because there is no release of green house gases, carbon monoxide, mercury, etc., which occurs in flame based cremation or traditional burial. The gentle process takes approximately 20 hours, by returning the proteins and fat into amino acids, peptides, sugars, salts and minerals. The sterile effluent is not only benign, it is beneficial; it can be used for fertilizer, or as an excellent micro-nutrient package that benefits water treatment plants. Our water is returned back to nature via the water treatment plant, where it is purified, filtered and recycled back to the earth. Similar to cremation, the only solid remains are the mineral ash of the bones. The ash is a light sage or white color because it retains more minerals, is clean, and without carbon discoloration. The bone fragments are processed into a powdered consistency after the aquamation process is complete and then dried for several more days, then you receive ash remains just like you would with flame based cremation. This is a gentle process, preserving your pet's dignity and giving owners back an additional 20% of their loved ones remains. Making this environmentally conscious choice is a wonderful way to honor your pet.

I found Minx in the summer of 2010, I was 17 years old then. She was so small and dirty, the tiniest little kitten I'd ever seen. She fit in the palm of my hand.

I had been wanting a kitten, and sure enough, she showed up underneath my mailbox. Like a special delivery sent to me by the universe.

We got to grow up together, and watch each other change with life's seasons. She had grown to be so sweet, elegant, and smart. She had the most striking eyes, almost jade colored with a little bit of blue around her pupils. They were always so bright and deep when I'd look into them. It was like she had an understanding of the world and always chose to reflect the love she received back onto it.

My little jade-eyed princess, I'll always cherish our memories together, and I'll continue to love you until the end of time.

Until we meet again, Minxy cat 🀍

One of the things people don’t always realize about pet aquamation is that sometimes we find unexpected items afterward. 🐾

Occasionally pets swallow things during their lifetime β€” rocks, toys, pieces of plastic, even random household items. During the aquamation process, these things can remain behind. Some are surprising, some are concerning, and some simply remind us how curious our pets can be.

It’s a gentle reminder to keep a close eye on what our animals might get into β€” and also a look into the hidden parts of their lives we never knew about.

Our pets always keep us on our toes… even after they’re gone. πŸ’™

Jammers

Jammers came into my life 8 years ago. I had found him for free on Kijiji. He was a year and half old king Sheperd cross akita. A rescue from up north. He was huge. I didn't expect him to be so big. And At first I was scared of him because of his size. But I quickly learned how much of a sweetheart he was. He didn't know any commands when I got him. But he learned everything he knew in a single night and knew every command by a simple hand gesture. Soon enough he was registered as my service dog.

He was the best thing in my life. He saved my life. If it weren't for him I probably wouldn't be alive today. He was my rock, my shoulder to cry on. He was there when no one else was. He was the most loyal, gentle, silly and smartest dog I could have imagined having. There's no replacing him. He's one of a kind. He went everwhere with me and now he's not here and I don't know what I'm going to do.

I'll never forget you jammers. You were such a good boy. And I'm sorry I couldn't take away your pain. I love you and I miss you soo much.
