On International Self-Care Day, we recognize the importance of small, consistent actions that help sustain the people who support our communities every day. What’s a small thing you can do for yourself today?

"Sometimes you notice someone in your neighbourhood, at your workplace, or in your building who seems to be struggling, and you're not sure what to do.

Now there are two ways to help. HART Hub, our walk-in space at 721 Wellington Street East, and our Outreach Wellness Response Team, right in the community, are both here to support people facing mental health, substance use, financial or food insecurity, and homelessness challenges.

And starting Saturday, July 25, both are open longer. HART Hub is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Outreach Wellness Response Team is out in the community Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

We've also just launched a new online referral form so it's easier for anyone in the community to reach out. If you see someone who might benefit from support, you can now let us know through a simple form on our website. Our Team monitors submissions Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday 10:30am to 5:30pm

You'll also start seeing our business cards around town, with a QR code that goes straight to the form. Keep an eye out for them at community spots across the region.

Referring someone isn't reporting them. It's opening a door. Our teams reach out with care, and the person always has the choice about what happens next.

If someone is in immediate crisis, please still call 911 or your local crisis line. The referral form is for people who might benefit from support, not emergencies.

You can find the form here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/JiEvrLkaFa

CMHA Algoma will be closed on July 1, 2026, for Canada Day.

June 27 is PTSD Awareness Day

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) doesn't always look the way people expect. While it is often associated with military service, PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed trauma.

Symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, feeling constantly on edge, avoiding reminders of a traumatic event and changes in mood, relationships or daily life.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness. Recovery is possible and support can make a meaningful difference.
