Holy moly that’s a lot of tiny humans now walking (or rolling, or being worn) on this earth.

✨ 24 vaginal births (including 2 completed VBACs 💪)
✨ 7 cesarean births, for a whole range of valid, complex, human reasons
✨ Earliest gestation: 32+4
✨ Latest gestation: 41+6

Every single birth looked different. Every single one mattered.

Thank you to each and every family who trusted me to be by their side during one of the most vulnerable, powerful, life-altering moments there is. Thank you for letting me witness your strength, your fear, your joy, your surrender, your advocacy, your softness, your fire.

Birth is never just about how a baby arrives, it’s about how people are held while it happens. And it is such an honour to keep showing up for that, again and again.

Feeling deeply grateful, a little mind-blown, and very aware of how sacred this work is. 🤍

If, back when I was just starting out on this path, someone had told me that one day I’d have the immense privilege of being welcomed into an Indigenous community to both teach and learn about this sacred work, I don’t think I would have believed them.

Landing in Matimekush was destabilizing, humbling, and deeply moving. The first moments felt like stepping into something much bigger than myself. As the days unfolded, I was gifted the chance to witness and learn pieces of the rich Innu culture, their ways of being in community, and their relationship with life, birth, and parenting.

What we shared and received goes far beyond words. There is so much more to unpack about the realities of birthing and reproductive health in Indigenous contexts, and the resilience and strength of the people carrying this knowledge forward. I’ll be sharing more soon in a blog post, so stay tuned.

For now, my heart is full of gratitude. Thank you Julie and Steffie for opening your hearts, your stories, and your community to us. This experience will stay with me forever.

To see your babies grow and have a chat with you about your birth is an amazing privilege. I love my postpartum visits!
