DID YOU KNOW....
With flu season upon us, a lot of essential oil users are quick to reach for blends that include eucalyptus to ease their cold and flu symptoms. However, not all eucalyptus essential oils are considered safe for use with children. This is due to a high percentage of a chemical component called 1,8-Cineole, which can cause central nervous system and breathing problems in young children under 10 (ie. Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata). It is important to check the botanical name in the ingredients list before using. If the blend you are using just says eucalyptus, you should assume it is not kid safe. Eucalyptus dives has a very low percentage of 1,8-Cineole making it a kid safe option when using eucalyptus essential oil. (Tisserand R. and Young R., Essential Oil Safety, 2nd Edition, 2014.)
