Finding the right therapist can be a confusing mess, especially in the landscape of social media. + the trickiness of quality control when it comes to finding someone.

Fortunately, we actually have pretty good research on what works in therapy. Michael Lambert and associates researched across various counseling modalities, and found that 40% of client change was related to extra therapeutic factors. But in the counseling process, the greatest predictor of climate change coming in at 30% was the therapeutic alliance. Only 15% could be attributed to the specific counseling modality that the therapist is using.

So when you're doing your search, pay attention to how you feel about the person, how comfortable you feel with them, how likely you would be to open up. Don't sell yourself short on your instincts. If they are a good therapist, they will be paying attention to this as well.

If my team and I can help you in your search, please reach out by DM or email.

Peace! βœŒοΈπŸ‘Š

Wow guys, therapist of the year??

Seriously?

I am so humbled...

That you would think that I'm anywhere even remotely close to that πŸ˜‚

But hey, my clients consistently say that I'm, well, "pretty good".

Maybe that's enough?

We're not taking home any awards, but if you're a guy who is struggling with addictions, anxiety, isolation, disconnection from your partner... Me and my team can help.

DM for deets πŸ‘Š

SO much going on with men in the world right now and as men trying to do better, it can be confusing how to start.

Here's what one of our guys said after completing our Ask Her course. If any of this sounds familiar, we start April 27th.

"When I look back on the intimate relationships in my life, a pattern that emerges is how much trouble I had communicating the tricky stuff with my partner. I'd just bottle things up or pretend it's no big deal β€” I can just go on vibes.

I think a lot of guys have a similar tendency. Overcoming it β€” paying attention to the things I'm afraid to mention, and finding a vocabulary to discuss them β€” hasn't just improved my marriage. It's also improved my relationship with myself."

Ask Her is a skills course for men
8 weeks, online, small group.
Practical skills most of us were never taught.

Starts April 27th. A few spots remaining. Comment below or send me a message if you're interested β€” or forward this to a guy who'd benefit.

Sources of Hope for working with men on healthy masculinity.

This is a clip from a long form conversation that I had with my friend last summer on his podcast

Today is the 10-year anniversary of toxic drugs being declared a public health emergency in BC.

In that time, I have lost a very close male friend who was a therapist, 5 male therapy clients, and multiple members of my community. Of course the toxic drug supply affects all genders, but men account for 77 to 80% of overdose deaths in BC. They often die in despair, and alone.

I am so sorry if you have been impacted as well.

Check on the dudes in your life.

We need to support one another.

We need robust options for both harm reduction and recovery resources.

Much love to all:

Brian

Experts say they worry the province hasn’t used all the powers available that come with a public health emergency, and is leaning on public opinion rather than science to inform policy.

Most men ask what their partner did today.

Very few ask how she felt in her relationships today.

That one shift changes everything.

Try this: "Was there anyone who really listened to you today, and how did that make you feel?"

Save this for when you get stuck, or forward it to your partner β€” and watch what opens up.

Comment on how it goes, I read every one.

"How was your day?" might be the most well-intentioned yet ineffective question in relationships. Most men were never taught how to ask better questions. That's not a character flaw, it's just a knowledge gap. So try this tonight instead πŸ‘†

What's a question that's actually worked for you with your partner? Drop it below β€” I'm genuinely curious.
