3 Tips to Prevent Gardening-Related Back Pain
1. Avoid Prolonged Bending
Repeated forward bending is one of the biggest causes of gardening-related back pain. Try:
• Using a kneeling pad or garden stool
• Bringing your work closer to waist height when possible
• Changing positions every 15-20 minutes
2. Lift Smarter
Heavy bags of soil, mulch, and pots can quickly strain your back.
Remember:
• Bend through your hips and knees
• Keep loads close to your body
• Avoid twisting while carrying
3. Take Frequent Breaks
Many gardeners spend hours outside without realizing how much strain they're putting on their body.
Set a timer and:
• Stand up regularly
• Walk around
• Stretch your back and hips
Your garden will still be there after a short break.
