Back to School: An Adjustment for the Whole Family 🎒

The back-to-school season can bring a mix of excitement, anticipation, stress, and even a little sadness — and that’s true for parents and caregivers, too.

As routines shift and everyone settles into new schedules, it’s normal for your family to need some time to adjust. You may notice more big feelings, shorter patience, tiredness, or difficulty getting back into a rhythm.

A few gentle reminders for this transition:

✨ Expect an adjustment period. New routines take time to feel familiar.

✨ Keep connection at the centre. A few minutes of undivided attention can go a long way.

✨ Make space for feelings. Excitement and worry can exist side by side.

✨ Lower the pressure. Not every morning needs to run perfectly, and that’s okay.

✨ Take care of yourself, too. Supporting your children starts with making space for your own rest and wellbeing.

You don’t have to navigate every transition perfectly. Families grow, adapt, and find their rhythm together — one day at a time.

If the back-to-school transition feels especially challenging for your family, counselling can offer a supportive space to work through the changes together.

Life is full of change.

Some changes are exciting—starting a new job, welcoming a child, getting married, or moving into a new home.

Others arrive unexpectedly—grief, illness, relationship struggles, career uncertainty, divorce, becoming an empty nester, or simply realizing life doesn't feel the way it used to.

Even positive change can bring stress, uncertainty, and emotions you didn't expect.

You don't have to navigate those transitions alone.

Counselling offers a space to pause, process, and find your footing through life's changing seasons. Whether you're adjusting to something new, carrying the weight of loss, or feeling stuck in the middle of a transition, support is available.

✨ Wherever you are in your journey, we're here to walk alongside you.

We are currently accepting new clients for individuals, couples, adolescents, and families.

Feel free to reach out today to learn more or book your free consultation. Your next chapter doesn't have to be navigated alone.

☀️ Summer doesn't always feel like a break.

Longer days. Family gatherings. Kids home from school. Vacations to plan. Yard work. Social events. Expectations to "make the most of summer."

Sometimes, the busiest season is the one that looks the most relaxing from the outside.

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, it's okay to give yourself permission to slow down—even if life doesn't.

You don't have to fill every sunny day with productivity or plans. Rest isn't something you earn. It's something your mind and body need.

This summer, ask yourself:
What would slowing down look like for me today?

Even five quiet minutes can make a difference.

Amber's book of the month is "Lament for a Son."
Grief is complicated and can often leave people without words causing them to feel even more alone and isolated. This book helps people access grief when they don't have the words for what they are experiencing.

One parenting resource I (Cory) often recommend is Parenting with Love and Logic by Foster Cline and Jim Fay.

I appreciate its emphasis on raising responsible, capable children through empathy, natural consequences, and thoughtful guidance rather than constant control or punishment. The practical strategies help parents reduce power struggles while teaching responsibility, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills that benefit children well into adulthood.

While I don't agree with every recommendation, I would have liked to see more emphasis on preventative parenting and modelling qualities like gratitude, respect, and kindness. I also take a different approach to children's friendships, believing it's often more beneficial to create a welcoming home where parents can positively influence peer relationships.

No parenting book has all the answers, but Parenting with Love and Logic offers a solid foundation and remains one of the books I recommend most often. If you're looking for a practical parenting resource, it's well worth the read.

Why Mallory recommends this book:
This book not only captures the raw emotion of profound grief and provides a language for the confusion, pain, and emotional turmoil that often accompany loss, but it also creates space for honest wrestling with the goodness of God in the midst of suffering. Rather than offering easy answers, Lewis shares his experience as he struggles to reconcile his faith with loss, demonstrating the ways grief and faith coexist.
