Not all grief comes from death. Some of it comes from loss without closure.
Ambiguous loss is grief for something (or someone) still physically present but changed, a parent with dementia, an estranged family member, a relationship that ended without explanation, an identity or future you thought you'd have. There's no funeral for this kind of loss, and often, no permission to grieve it either.
On National Grief Awareness Day, we want to name this clearly: if your grief doesn't fit a tidy timeline or an obvious loss, it is still grief, and it still deserves space and support.
