June is National Indigenous History Month. A time to hold space for the histories, cultures, and lived experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.
At Little Tree, we recognize that these histories are not just part of the past, but are deeply connected to present-day wellbeing, identity, and healing. This month invites reflection on the richness of Indigenous knowledge systems, languages, and cultural practices that continue to shape community strength, resilience, and connection today. It also calls us to acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonization and the importance of culturally safe, trauma-informed care in mental health spaces.
We also want to highlight that there are Indigenous-specific mental health and wellness supports available for those who may need them. These include the Hope for Wellness Helpline, the MMIWG2S Health and Cultural Support Program, and the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program. Each of these services is designed to provide culturally grounded support, counselling, and connection to care in ways that honour Indigenous ways of knowing and healing.
